La actualidad pone de manifiesto la necesidad de afrontar de manera urgente los problemas derivados de la multiculturalidad y el pluralismo religioso que caracterizan la sociedad del siglo XXI. En este sentido, resulta esencial conjugar el Derecho Fundamental de Libertad Religiosa con el resto de principios y garantías constitucionalmente establecidas. No cabe duda que, hoy en día, el mayor ámbito de incidencia y de resolución práctica de estos conflictos se produce en la gestión de los servicios públicos sanitarios, por lo que urge un análisis riguroso de todas aquellas demandas de amparo que, vinculadas al Derecho Fundamental de Libertad Religiosa, son instadas tanto por usuarios y pacientes como por los propios facultativos y profesionales de la sanidad pública. La presente obra, en base a la jurisprudencia y la doctrina más reciente, aborda soluciones de índole práctica y propuestas de lege ferenda, entre otras, relativas a aquellos requerimientos de protección del derecho de objeción de conciencia en supuestos de dispensa de contraceptivos, interrupción voluntaria del embarazo, negativa a transfusiones sanguíneas o en casos de documentos de voluntades anticipadas. Un segundo bloque se ocupa de aquellos supuestos en los que, en virtud del régimen de especial de sujeción al que se encuentra sometido el paciente, la Administración sanitaria está obligada a prestar una asistencia religiosa que se materializa tanto en la asistencia espiritual, como en la alimentaria o en la necesidad de establecer lugares e infraestructura de culto. Por último, el examen se centra en el análisis de la simbología religiosa que, en su doble vertiente dinámica y permanente, se encuentra presente en establecimientos y centros hospitalarios públicos. Jacinto J. Marabel Matos, está casado y tiene dos hijos. Es Doctor en Derecho, Licenciado en Derecho y Licenciado en Ciencias Políticas y Sociología. Su trayectoria profesional como jurista ha estado vinculada al Consejo Consultivo de Extremadura, habiendo publicado diferentes artículos en revistas especializadas relacionados con el Derecho Público en general y los Derechos Fundamentales en particular, especialmente en correlación con el Derecho de Libertad Religiosa y su incidencia práctica en la gestión de los servicios públicos sanitarios.
