Demopandemia pretende contribuir al nutrido debate acerca del impacto de la pandemia sobre instituciones como la Constitución y la Democracia. Este debate resulta de plena relevancia, no solo por los desafíos que plantea en cuanto al ejercicio proporcional del poder público, la ausencia de control político y social, y las constantes tentativas de restricción a los derechos humanos, sino también porque ya existían casos y que la crisis sanitaria potenció e incrementó. Esto ha hecho que muchos cuestionen la ausencia de controles a los estados de excepción, los excesos del presidencialismo o que postulen la necesidad de una nueva redistribución y contención del poder público; además en repensar la teoría de la constitución y la ausencia de participación ciudadana. Igualmente, el diseño constitucional puesto a prueba y las insuficiencias propias de una obra humana, incluso las contextuales- las propias de cada país o región- se evidencian con mayor fuerza.

"In the face of new extraction, communities in Latin America's hydrocarbon and mining regions use participatory institutions powerfully. In some cases, communities act within the formal participatory spaces, while in others, they organized "around" or "in reaction to" the institutions, using participatory procedures as focal points for escalating conflict. Communities select their strategies in response to the participatory challenges they confront. Those challenges are associated with contestation over the boundaries that determine access to participatory institutions. Contestation over the line between subnational authority vis-à-vis central-state jurisdictions heightens communities' challenge of initiating a participatory process. Disagreement over the territorial delineation of communities impacted by planned extraction creates for formally non-impacted communities the challenge of gaining inclusion in participatory events. Finally, disputes over the boundary that sets representatives of an affected community apart from the community at large intensify the community's challenge of conveying a position on extraction. This analysis of thirty major extractive conflicts in Bolivia, Colombia, and Peru in the 2000s and 2010s examines community uses of public hearings built into environmental licensing, state-led prior consultations with native communities, and local popular consultations, or referenda"--

This volume offers a snapshot of anthropological perspectives on global challenges. The importance of gender and gender-based categorizations cling to the world of sport like no other realm of culture or society in the twenty-first century. While presented as natural, logical, and innate, the differential treatment of men and women and boys and girls in the world of sport is largely the product of over a century of global socialization intent on preserving sport as a male-dominated pastime, lifestyle, and avenue of opportunity. As the most popular sport worldwide, football (or soccer) may be the poster child for lingering gender disparities in sport. Despite women’s presence on the pitch since the turn of the twentieth century, governments and football associations have proactively suppressed their ability to participate in the game through gender stereotypes, underinvestment, precarious professional opportunities, and disrespect. This report describes the various manifestations of gender-based discrimination that shape the game of football today, the role the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) plays in perpetuating this discrimination, and existing avenues for remedy (or lack thereof). The report concludes with key takeaways from the fight for gender equality to date, with an eye toward building a more just world of sport in the years to come.

La importancia de las categorizaciones del género y basadas en el género se afianza en el mundo de los deportes como en ninguna otra dimensión de la cultura o la sociedad del siglo XXI. Aunque se presenta como natural, lógico e innato, el trato diferenciado entre hombres y mujeres, y niños y niñas en el mundo deportivo es en gran parte producto de más de un siglo de socialización global que pretende preservar el deporte como un pasatiempo, un estilo de vida y una fuente de oportunidades dominados por los hombres. Como el más popular del mundo, el fútbol puede ser el ejemplo más grande de las disparidades actuales en el deporte. A pesar de la presencia de las mujeres en las canchas desde principios del siglo XX, los gobiernos y las asociaciones de fútbol han eliminado de manera proactiva su capacidad de participar en el juego bonito a través de estereotipos de género, poca inversión, oportunidades profesionales precarias y faltas de respeto. This book explores the current human rights crisis created by the War on Drugs in Mexico. It focuses on three vulnerable communities that have felt the impacts of this war firsthand: undocumented Central American migrants in transit to the United States, journalists who report on violence in highly dangerous regions, and the mourning relatives of victims of severe crimes, who take collective action by participating in human rights investigations and searching for their missing loved ones. Analyzing contemporary novels, journalistic chronicles, testimonial works, and documentaries, the book reveals the political potential of these communities’ vulnerability and victimization portrayed in these fictional and non-fictional representations. Violence against migrants, journalists, and activists reveals an array of human rights violations affecting the right to safe transit across borders, freedom of expression, the right to information, and the right to truth and justice.
