Notre siècle a été volcanisé par deux grandes guerres et, aujourd’hui, nous sommes confrontés à des crises qui s’enchaînent, se combinent, se heurtent les unes les autres. La crise politique, la crise culturelle, la crise écologique, la crise morale, la crise planétaire sont autant d’aspects de l’être, désormais crisiaque, de nos sociétés. Edgar Morin a consacré une grande partie de son œuvre à traiter et à diagnostiquer la crise. La crise est présente dans ses premiers travaux, bien avant qu’il la théorise. Dans les années 1960, il effectue des enquêtes « à chaud » au moyen de méthodes d’observation quasi cliniques (voir La Métamorphose de Plozévet, Mai 68 et La Rumeur d’Orléans) qui le conduisent à formuler les principes d’une crisologie. Le thème de la « crise » va guider le parcours de cet ouvrage qui porte sur la pensée politique et sociale d’Edgar Morin. Aujourd’hui, la crise de la mondialisation techno-économique, la crise du coronavirus et, depuis février 2022, l’invasion de l’Ukraine par la Russie accentuent les risques de régressions. Nous vivons dans des sociétés travaillées par des crises qui mettent en péril l’avenir de l’humanité. Le monde s’est engagé dans une voie sans issue. Il est temps de changer de voie. Une nouvelle Voie s’impose, selon Edgar Morin, comme une urgence indispensable (voir Une politique de civilisation, La Voie et Changeons de voie). Edgar Morin est l’auteur d’une œuvre transdisciplinaire abondamment commentée et traduite dans plusieurs langues. Son œuvre consiste à affronter la difficulté de penser la complexité du réel. Directeur de recherche émérite au Centre national de la recherche scientifique, il est docteur honoris causa de trente-huit universités à travers le monde.

Meaning, feeling and expression – the experience of inwardness – matter most in human existence. The perspective of biopoetics shows that this experience is shared by all organisms. Being alive means to exist through relations that have existential concern, and to express these dimensions through the body and its gestures. All life takes place within one poetic space which is shared between all beings and which is accessible through subjective sensual experience. We take part in this through our empirical subjectivity, which arises from the experiences and needs of living beings, and which makes them open to access and sharing in a poetic objectivity. Biopoetics breaks free from the causal-mechanic paradigm which made biology unable to account for mind and meaning. Biology becomes a science of expression, connection and subjectivity which can understand all organisms including humans as feeling agents in a shared ecology of meaningful relations, embedded in a symbolical and material metabolism of the biosphere.
