1303, Dante Alighieri, durante il suo esilio, scrive cinque canti rimasti nascosti, perché eretici e pericolosi. 2018, il prof. Giordano Verzecchi, insegnante di lettere di un liceo torinese, entra in possesso di un raro documento appartenuto a un suo trisavolo, Arduino Verzecchi, bibliotecario di Casa Savoia. Una lunga sequenza di versi endecasillabi in stile dantesco, che sembrano illustrare una Commedia altra, di natura esoterica. Giordano contatta il prof. De Carolis, un docente di Lettere Antiche di Firenze che, con l’aiuto della sua assistente, Valentina Tornabuoni, conclude che si tratti di un originale dantesco, dai contenuti pericolosamente eretici. Dopo la rivelazione, De Carolis viene assassinato e Valentina e Giordano, tra i quali è iniziata una storia amorosa, intraprendono la ricerca dei frammenti danteschi mancanti. Due forze occulte, però, si contrastano. Recuperati i cinque frammenti danteschi, attraverso varie peripezie degne dei migliori thriller internazionali, i due ricercatori si trovano di fronte al dilemma di come gestire il pericoloso ritrovamento, e tra misteriosi delitti capiscono che anche la loro vita è in pericolo.
