Questa edizione riprende sostanzialmente quella precedente con qualche modifica e ampliata. Scrive Francesco Aronne sulla quarta di copertina: «L’interesse dell’autore si posa come una vitalissima farfalla su ogni curiosità della cultura che riesce a trasformare abilmente in cultura della curiosità, dove l’argomento di inciampo diventa solo un pretesto per giravolte speculative. A distanza di venti anni dalla morte (6 dicembre 1997) è parso doveroso un omaggio alla memoria dello studioso Carmine De Luca da parte dell'amico. Questo lavoro, come ne scrive nella prefazione l'autore, non ha altre pretese. Attraverso queste pagine emerge, sia pure in parte, la poliedrica figura di De Luca: giornalista, storico della letteratura e della pedagogia, critico, saggista, osservatore del mondo dei ragazzi e delle ragazze. In appendice sono riportati scritti di De Luca, difficili ormai da reperire. De Luca ha scritto molto, i suoi testi appaiono in riviste, molte delle quali non più edite. Meriterebbero che fossero raccolti, perché forniscono ancora analisi e proposte operative per i nostri giorni, perché darebbero, di certo, un contributo prezioso alla storia della letteratura e del giornalismo e della cultura italiana. Il suo nome è legato in particolare a Rodari e alla letteratura per l'infanzia ma, in verità, i suoi lavori non sono riconducibili solo a questo pur essenziale aspetto; le tematiche da lui studiate e affrontate sono varie e diverse e impegnano molti campi.
