Logo no começo da história, quando o narrador conta que por um gesto secreto por ser também divino, todos os segredos do universo vão parar e preencher o vazio de uma mochila, muito especial, a Mochila Azul, já pressentimos que o mistério solto no ar tem o poder de mudar o futuro da humanidade alegoricamente representada por crianças muito especiais e sua amada avó. Uma cigarra entra voando para dentro da proteção do lar, e lança o convite-desafio a todos dizendo que dentro da mochila tem um mapa para o maior tesouro de suas vidas, mas faz uma advertência: todos têm que subir a montanha antes que a escuridão chegasse, pois assim seria impossível terminar a jornada. Um dia seus pés irão tocar o infinito assoalho do arco-íris! Essa é a impressão que fica quando descobrimos que para chegar à montanha, tem que caminhar pelo chão de sete cores. Uma incrível imagem que fascina. Um convite para a necessidade de fantasia. A vovó está cansada, está com muita sede, ela desmaia. Alguns pensam que está morta! Chega a escuridão e muda tudo ao seu redor. Diz o texto: “O estranho é que o lugar foi mudando, havia mil flores que ficaram para trás e já não perfumavam mais. As cores foram se perdendo no caos, eram cores sem vida. E a música se perdeu no silêncio. Só se ouvia o bater das asas da borboleta!” O pequeno Pedro chora “No chão onde as lágrimas de Pedro caíram, as cores ressurgiram. E novas estrelas, feito cometas, surgiram na noite escura. Eram na verdade vaga-lumes que voavam por toda parte e brincando de roda, a assim, fizeram um círculo de luz ao redor de todos”. Eles abrem a mochila, a esperança é confirmada, lá dentro tiram uma garrafa, a chuva aumenta, enchem a garrafa de luz , de vida, e dão de beber a vovó que é curada. Voltam a caminhar chegam ao alto da montanha, a felicidade vibra no ar. Estão tão perto de encontrá-la. “Estavam no alto da montanha. O mapa estava aceso como o Sol e frio como a Lua, ao ser levantado ele se partiu em partes iguais cada um pegou uma parte, e, de repente, apareceu escrito um nome e o desenho de um animal. Leão para o Pedro, Cachorro para Thiago Rogério, Gaivota para Fabiana, Borboleta para a Lila, Golfinho para Sofia, Urso para Lucas e para a vovó apareceu uma Águia uma pata e uma Flor. Sete estrelas mais uma no céu se abriram para eles e lá... Lá estavam os tesouros.”

The Lost Cinema of Mexico is the first volume to challenge the dismissal of Mexican filmmaking during the 1960s through 1980s, an era long considered a low-budget departure from the artistic quality and international acclaim of the nation’s earlier Golden Age. This pivotal collection examines the critical implications of discovering, uncovering, and recovering forgotten or ignored films. This largely unexamined era of film reveals shifts in Mexican culture, economics, and societal norms as state-sponsored revolutionary nationalism faltered. During this time, movies were widely embraced by the public as a way to make sense of the rapidly changing realities and values connected to Mexico’s modernization. These essays shine a light on many genres that thrived in these decades: rock churros, campy luchador movies, countercultural superocheros, Black melodramas, family films, and Chili Westerns. Redefining a time usually seen as a cinematic “crisis,” this volume offers a new model of the film auteur shaped by productive tension between highbrow aesthetics, industry shortages, and national audiences.
