La Oculta Senda. Aforística de Celeste Afrodita, nace de una obra mayor que la contiene, “La Intención Agrícola”, extenso poema de interpretación lírica tanto del territorio abarcable y patente como del Cosmos en su infinitud. Del núcleo mismo de este poemario se desgranan los aforismos que tenemos ante nosotros, breves máximas en que palpita la invitación a trasponer “el umbral de lo oculto” y dejar que la mirada busque un “Allí” porque en la profundidad de ese mirar se juega una experiencia de lo real que nos exige dejar de ser “gente que no ve lo que está mirando” como advertía el poeta hindú Kabir, o, en palabras esta vez de Antonio Machado, gente de “ojos hartos de mirar sin ver”. Muy al contrario, la propuesta que nos llega en la voz de la cabra, la culebra, el agua, la luna, el milano o el perfume nos demanda una mirada que vea y un oír que escuche la sabiduría íntima, antigua y oculta del Jardín. The Hidden Path. Aphoristica by Celeste Afrodita, is born from a larger work that contains it, “The Intention of Becoming”, an extensive poem with a lyrical interpretation of both the encompassing and patent territory and the Cosmos in its infiniteness. From the very core of this collection of poems the aphorisms that we have before us are shelled, brief maxims in which the invitation to cross “the threshold of the hidden” throbs and let the gaze search for a “There” because in the depth of that look it is played an experience of the real that requires us to stop being “people who do not see what you are looking at” as the Hindu poet Kabir warned, or, in the words of Antonio Machado this time, people with “tired eyes that look without seeing”. Quite the contrary, the proposal that comes to us in the goat’s voice, the snake, the water, the moon, the white-tailed kit or the perfume demands from us a look that sees and a hearing that listens to the intimate, ancient and hidden wisdom of the Garden. Celeste Afrodita tiene setenta y un años. Profesor de música. Artista plástico: pintor, escultor, muralista, ceramista, con exposiciones en Europa y en Norteamérica. Actualmente es conferenciante y lector de su extensa obra, La Intención Agrícola. Celeste Afrodita is seventy-one years old, a music teacher, a multidisciplinary artist: painter, sculptor, muralist, ceramist, he has exhibited his work in Europe and North America. He is currently a speaker and a reader of his wide body of work, The Intention of Becoming.

Cumandá, también titulado Un drama entre salvajes, es una novela del ecuatoriano Juan León Mera. Juan León Mera, como auténtico hijo de su país y de su tierra, revela en toda su obra una clara predilección por los temas nativos. Cumandá es un anticipo de la novela indigenista que vendrá pocos años más tarde, pues refleja ya en este libro la protesta social indígena y su venganza contra su opresor. Tres hilos temáticos conforman esta novela de Juan León Mera: el amor, el indio y la selva. El subtítulo lo advierte y la narración se perfila entre pasiones, huidas, persecuciones y sacrificios. Cumandá es una novela fundadora de la narrativa ecuatoriana, y es también heredera ejemplar de la tradición romántica latinoamericana. A su manera, le da continuidad y la reorganiza. Así el amor imposible de una india y un blanco se engarza con la figura del buen salvaje. Juntos abren el universo sublime y misterioso de la selva. No falta la intriga, tampoco asombro. En Cumandá están los ecos de esas mujeres imaginadas en María de Jorge Isaacs, en Cecilia Valdés de Cirilo Villaverde o en Amalia de José Marmol. En los cuerpos de esos personajes literarios se pergeñaban proyectos biopolíticos y programas civilizatorios. También encontramos un diálogo con los textos de los exploradores, a la vez admirados y aterrados, frente a la naturaleza americana. Se dialoga además con las crónicas del Nuevo Mundo y las Tradiciones. Esas ingeniosas reconstrucciones del pasado que Ricardo Palmallevó a su cúspide. No son menos interesantes los modos en que Juan León Mera impugna las teorías sobre la inferioridad del indio. Aquí se cuestiona a Buffon, Montesquieu, Robertson, Domingo Faustino Sarmiento o José Ingenieros. A la vez pone en jaque todas aquellas concepciones de origen roussoniano, que enarbolaban al indio como un otro deseado. Se cuestiona la idea del idea del indio como estandarte que asegura el sueño colonial de América como un lugar ideal, virgen e impoluto. Queda por decidir si Cumandá se ubica a caballo entre una corriente indianista que insiste en una imagen exótica, decorativa y folclórica del indio, y otra corriente indigenista que lo pone en el centro del escenario, le da voz y se hace eco de su complejo universo cultural. En todo caso, esta novela reúne muchas de las preguntas que acompañan y aún acompañan el devenir de Ecuador y de América Latina.

The Interoceanic Highway is many things to many people: an emblematic project during a period focused on integration, a dream realized for an isolated region, a symbol of the profound fragility of state institutions, a key cause of political corruption, and a major driver of ecological and cultural devastation. This highway links the Andean highlands with the Amazonian lowlands in southern Peru, offering an outlet for Brazil's emergent economy. While it finally brought an end to the isolation of Madre de Dios and other parts of southern Peru and the western Amazon, it was made possible by political corruption revealed in the Lava Jato scandal, and it permitted the spread of criminal business activities. But the Interoceanic Highway's deeper history must be appreciated in order to fully understand why it was built and the impacts it has generated. The Road to the Land of the Mother of God explores more than five hundred years of the history of Peru's Interoceanic Highway, showing how the purposes, portrayals, and importance of roads change fundamentally over time, and thus how roads bring significantly more impacts and costs than their advocates and critics generally anticipate. By taking a deeper look at infrastructure history, Stephen G. Perz and Jorge Luis Castillo Hurtado portray infrastructure as an integrative optic for understanding changes in local livelihoods, regional development, and social conflicts.
