Il 7 maggio 2014 nella Cripta dell’Aula Magna dell’Università Cattolica di Milano si è celebrato il Convegno «Enrico R. Galbiati (1914-2004): un prete ambrosiano con lo sguardo a Oriente» per far memoria di questo grande Maestro e ringraziarlo di quanto ci ha dato di persona e continua a donarci col suo magistero e il suo esempio. Le relazioni tenute durante i lavori del Convegno, che qui vengono pubblicate integralmente a partire dai saluti delle autorità accademiche, lo presentano come modello di studioso, di prete, di uomo, e come icona di dialogo religioso ed ecumenico, come ha attestato anche la partecipazione di rappresentanti della Chiesa Ortodossa, oltre che di quella Cattolica greca e latina. La scelta delle sede, l’Università Cattolica di Milano, è dovuta ai legami che il Professor Enrico Galbiati ebbe con tale ateneo: vi depositò la sua libera docenza in ‘Filologia biblica’ nel 19671 ed esattamente trent’anni dopo (25/3/1997) vi fu insignito della Laurea honoris causa in Lettere classiche. Inoltre nel 1952, 15 anni prima che vi iniziasse il suo magistero, don Galbiati veniva segnalato dal Rettore A. Gemelli per la nomina a Dottore dell’Ambrosiana2, come ci informa una nota d’archivio riservata, da poco rinvenuta. Sono molto grata a S.E. il cardinal Tettamanzi, che è intervenuto comunicando la sua testimonianza, di Arcivescovo, amico e confidente di Monsignor Galbiati: le sue parole, che si ricollegano a quelle pronunciate nell’omelia alle esequie di Monsignore, sono un segno indelebile di stima e di amicizia, oltre che una resa di giustizia. Ringrazio gli amici e colleghi che hanno accettato di intervenire con una relazione sulle opere e l’attività di Monsignor Galbiati, dopo averle riesaminate e ristudiate, per mostrarne la validità del contributo nei vari campi: Gianantonio Borgonovo, Flavio Dalla Vecchia, Marco Navoni, Giuseppe Ghiberti e Angelo Maffeis. Oltre agli Atti del Convegno vengono qui pubblicati testi inediti: la preghiera per l’ora ecumenica e la presentazione del I volume della Storia dell’Ambrosiana di Mons. Galbiati e le fotografie delle vetrate della chiesa parrocchiale di Verano Brianza con la loro legenda. Esse sono opera di Luisa Marzatico, nipote di Galbiati, che ne ha discusso tematiche e simbologia con lo zio. Ringrazio di cuore Luisa della fiducia dimostratami concedendomi di accedere alle cartelle dell’archivio personale di Monsignore. Di qui sono tratti i testi che verranno pubblicati prossimamente in un altro libro: La parola predicata. Omelie e meditazioni da Archimandrita e interventi vari, che Mons. G. Borgonovo, Arciprete del Duomo, ha accolto nella collana ‘La scuola della Cattedrale’, Jaca Book, Milano 2015 (sub praelo). Si tratta di omelie e meditazioni di Galbiati Archimandrita di rito greco-cattolico, ma anche prete ambrosiano, di lezioni e conferenze inediti. Infine la mia gratitudine va al dott. Andrea Redini, valido aiuto come assistenza e supporto tecnico durante lo svolgimento del Convegno e nella trascrizione dei manoscritti di Mons. Galbiati. In futuro altra documentazione potrà essere trovata e studiata, la figura di questo umile e grande prete potrà essere valorizzata dall’esame più accurato del periodo storico in cui visse e del movimento ecumenico conciliare e postconciliare.
