Jean-Claude Gal (1942-1994) appartenait au club très fermé des auteurs de bande dessinée pouvant se permettre de passer des années à peaufiner des albums rares et précieux. Amateur éclairé, il fit partie très tôt des premiers promoteurs en France de la bande dessinée comme " Neuvième Art ". Il était logique qu'il adhère dès l'origine à la formidable aventure pionnière du magazine Métal Hurlant (1975). Il y dessina les récits d'un des pères fondateurs des Humanoïdes Associés, Jean-Pierre Dionnet : d'abord Les Armées du Conquérant (1977), puis la saga d'Arn (deux tomes en 1981 et 1988). Des livres mettant en scène une Antiquité imaginaire dans un noir et blanc d'une méticulosité extraordinaire. Au point qu'il paraissait impossible d'imaginer son univers sculpté dans l'ombre et la lumière, soudain paré des éblouissements de la quadrichromie. C'est pourtant le défi qu'Alexandro Jodorowsky lui lança : il lui écrirait une histoire flamboyante et tragique à la seule condition que Jean-Claude Gal se mette à la couleur, indispensable pour coucher sur le papier les visions du créateur de L'Incal. Ainsi naquit La Passion de Diosamante, chef-d'oeuvre commencé en 1987 et publié en 1992... Une suite était prévue, Les Enfants de Diosamante. Les planches dessinées par Jean-Claude Gal, reproduites intégralement dans ce volume avec de nombreux suppléments, montrent qu'il avait encore franchi un seuil dans la maîtrise et l'enrichissement de son art, laissant à ses lecteurs cette sorte de regrets que procure une grande symphonie inachevée.

However, his “Panic Fables”--named after his early ‘60s avant-garde theater movement in Paris--were met with such insatiable popularity that he continued the series for six and a half years, from June 1967 until December 1973. Appearing for the first time in English, this book presents all 284 of Jodorowsky’s Panic Fables in full color, along with an introduction by the author. He reveals how his first comics reflected his pessimism about the future and the meaning of life, the negativity of which soon exhausted him. He realized he needed to show the positivity that he encountered in life, and thus, little by little, he began incorporating Zen teachings, initiatory wisdom, and sacred symbology into his Panic Fables. Through this transformation and the outpouring of support from his devoted readers, many of whom cite the Panic Fables as providing pivotal guidance during their adolescence, Jodo discovered that art can serve to heal as well as raise consciousness. Writing himself into his comics, Jodo can be glimpsed as the character of the disciple who talks with his master and, as the series progresses, gradually grows to assume the role of master, providing psychomagic solutions to the problems of everyday life.
