Les mutations politiques, sociales et économiques qui s'opèrent en Pologne, depuis le début des années quatre-vingts, permettent aux historiens polonais de réécrire certaines pages de l'histoire de ce pays sans craindre la censure. En prenant essentiellement appui sur les récentes publications historiques polonaises, l'auteur du livre Les Polonais et la Pologne dans la tourmente de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale s'intéresse à l'organisation des forces armées polonaises à l'étranger, après la campagne de septembre 1939, à leur participation aux combats sur tous les champs de bataille de la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, et à la résistance à l'occupant en Pologne et en France. Il met en relief les exactions commises par les troupes d'occupation en Pologne, et la politique menée par les puissances occidentales, vis-à-vis du gouvernement polonais en exil. Il montre les conséquences des ingérences des gouvernements de la Grande-Bretagne, des U.S.A. et de l'U.R.S.S. dans les affaires nationales polonaises. Une partie importante du livre est consacrée à l'analyse des relations polono-soviétiques, qui furent interrompues par le coup porté dans le dos des troupes polonaises par l'armée soviétique, le 17 septembre 1939. Le destin des Polonais, surtout celui de ceux des territoires orientaux de l'ancienne Pologne, fut d'abord marqué par les déportations au cœur de la Russie et de la Sibérie, puis par le massacre de Katyn et l'immobilisme des Soviétiques pendant les tragiques événements de l'insurrection de Varsovie. Tous les problèmes sont abordés dans ce livre, de manière à permettre au lecteur de saisir le clivage politique qui n'a cessé de se creuser entre les tenants du gouvernement polonais de Londres, et les partisans du gouvernement polonais de Lublin, et qui a eu pour conséquence de faire de la Pologne un pays satellite de l'U.R.S.S.
