In Punk and Revolution Shane Greene radically uproots punk from its iconic place in First World urban culture, Anglo popular music, and the Euro-American avant-garde, situating it instead as a crucial element in Peru's culture of subversive militancy and political violence. Inspired by José Carlos Mariátegui's Seven Interpretive Essays on Peruvian Reality, Greene explores punk's political aspirations and subcultural possibilities while complicating the dominant narratives of the war between the Shining Path and the Peruvian state. In these seven essays, Greene experiments with style and content, bends the ethnographic genre, and juxtaposes the textual and visual. He theorizes punk in Lima as a mode of aesthetic and material underproduction, rants at canonical cultural studies for its failure to acknowledge punk's potential for generating revolutionary politics, and uncovers the intersections of gender, ethnicity, class, and authenticity in the Lima punk scene. Following the theoretical interventions of Debord, Benjamin, and Bakhtin, Greene fundamentally redefines how we might think about the creative contours of punk subculture and the politics of anarchist praxis.

Arturo Merayo, Doctor en Ciencias de la Información, es Decano de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales y de la Comunicación de la Universidad Católica de Murcia (España). Catedrático de Comunicación Radiofónica en esa misma Universidad, imparte clases de Comunicación y Programación Radiofónica. Fue profesor titular de Comunicación e Información Radiofónica en la Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, en la que impartió clases durante quince años. Fue el director del Máster de Locución Audiovisual en dicha Facultad, profesor del Máster de radio de la Cadena COPE, del Máster de Dirección y gestión de empresas radiofónicas de la Cadena Ser (PRISA), ...etc. Como profesional del periodismo ha sido coordinador de los servicios informativos de la Cadena SER en Castilla y León; Delegado en Castilla y León de Expansión y Actualidad Económica; columnista del diario ABC; corresponsal de ORT/Press y Europa Press, y director de programación de Televisión Palencia. K. Mitchell Snow traces this relationship throughout nearly half a century of developments in Mexican dance—the emulation of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in the 1920s, the adoption of U.S.-style modern dance in the 1940s, and the creation of ballet-inspired folk dance in the 1960s. Snow describes the appearances in Mexico by Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova and Spanish concert dancer Tortóla Valencia, who helped motivate Mexico to express its own national identity through dance. He discusses the work of muralists and other visual artists in tandem with Mexico’s theatrical dance world, including Diego Rivera’s collaborations with ballet composer Carlos Chávez; Carlos Mérida’s leadership of the National School of Dance; José Clemente Orozco’s involvement in the creation of the Ballet de la Ciudad de México; and Miguel Covarrubias, who led the “golden age” of Mexican modern dance. Snow draws from a rich trove of historical newspaper accounts and other contemporary documents to show how these collaborations produced an image of modern Mexico that would prove popular both locally and internationally and continues to endure today.
