Per scrivere questo libro, dalla prima idea maturata in Ambra Cusin nel gennaio 2015, subito dopo il suo viaggio con un gruppo di scout adulti in Terra Santa, sono passati due anni. Parlare di psicoanalisi in una "Terra Santa"/ "Terra Martoriata" mette gli psicoanalisti, oltre che in contatto con i traumi da guerra (come nel caso di Maria Patrizia Salatiello che in questo libro parla del suo lavoro coi bambini di Gaza), anche nella posizione di chiedersi se in un contesto in cui sembra utopico il dialogo tra israeliani e palestinesi, anche la psicoanalisi rischi di diventare appannaggio solo di una parte (quella ebraica israeliana) essendovi l'altra (quella palestinese) esclusa. A tale rischio rispondono con impeccabile acume scientifico sia Henry Abramovitch che Marwan Dwairy. Abramovitch discute una seduta da lui condotta con un paziente palestinese proprio nel Giorno della Memoria di Israele, (Sabatini Scalmati nella Prefazione). Marwan Dwairy (Prefazione di Sabatini Scalmati). Il libro presenta inoltre due interviste fatte da Ambra Cusin ad Ajal Lotem (nata in Israele e figlia di ebrei italiani) e a Mohammad Mansur (psicoterapeuta palestinese formatosi in Italia). Il libro si chiude con la postfazione dello storico tedesco Christoph Schminck-Gustavus e con delle note di Nader Akkad esplicative di lemmi connessi alla cultura araba.
