Existe una toponimia común de los países llamados prehispánicos, anterior a los contactos iniciados hace cinco siglos. Numerosos escritos de esas primeras épocas dejan claro que los nativos hablaban lenguas no comprensibles para los hispanoparlantes, pero que existía una inquietante línea de entendimiento con los vascos que allí acudían. De hecho, consta la petición por escrito de las autoridades locales para que se envíen “vizcaínos” a la zona para facilitar el entendimiento con los nativos; aspecto que esta investigación no contradice sino más bien corrobora de modo suficientemente exhaustivo. Para que se hayan podido compartir tantos topónimos y apellidos que persistan desde épocas antiguas, puede haber dos explicaciones: a) Hubo una lengua originaria común, que tendría que haber sido cercana al actual euskera (para que desde él se pueda deducir tal parentesco), que se pudo originar en períodos muy antiguos (paleolíticos) y que se mantendría por siglos sin grandes cambios. b) No hubo una lengua común, pero sí un flujo muy activo en épocas antiguas (que podría situarse desde bastantes miles de años atrás hasta siglos antes de nuestra era actual) con viajes frecuentes e intercambios culturales afectando de modo global y prolongado. Ambas ideas chocan frontalmente con lo que se nos ha transmitido desde hace siglos y con lo que da por sentado la mayor parte de la humanidad. Pero rechazarlas por eso es algo que nunca puede hacer alguien que se tenga por científico o investigador. La presente obra es una continuación, en cuanto a objetivos y metodología de trabajo, de dos obras anteriores: Topónimos y apellidos españoles de origen ibérico o pre-latino (2019) y Toponimia comparada española e internacional interpretable sobre raíces ibéricas (2020).
