Juana I de Castilla, vulgarment llamada la Loca, fue reina de Castilla de 1504 a 1555, y de Arag�n y Navarra, de 1516 hasta 1555, no ejerci� ning�n poder efectivo desde 1506 y a partir de 1509 vivi� encerrada en Tordesillas, por orden de su padre Fernando el Cat�lico y mas tarde por orden de su hijo el rey Carlos I.De nacimiento, era infanta de Castilla y Arag�n. Desde joven mostr� se�ales de indiferencia religiosa que su madre trat� de ocultar. En 1496 se casa con Felipe el Hermoso, duque de Borgo�a, archiduque de Austria, Brabante y conde de Flandes. Tuvo con �l seis hijos. Debido a la muerte de sus hermanos Juan e Isabel y de su sobrino Miguel de la Paz, hered� las coronas de Castilla y de Arag�n. A la muerte de su madre, Isabel la Cat�lica, en 1504 le proclamaron reina de Castilla junto con su esposo; y a la muerte de su padre, Fernando el Cat�lico, en 1516 pas� a ser la reina de Navarra y soberana de la corona de Arag�n. Como resultado, el 25 de enero de 1516, se convirti� en la primera reina de las coronas que de la actual Espa�a; sin embargo, desde 1506 su poder solo fue nominal, ya que su hijo Carlos era el rey efectivo de Castilla y de Arag�n. Con el levantamiento comunero de 1520 sali� de su c�rcel y le ofrecieron encabezar la revuelta, pero ella se neg� y luego cuando su hijo Carlos derrot� a los comuneros volvi� a encerrarla. No mucho despu�s, Carlos ordenar�a que la obligasen a recibir los sacramentos cat�licos aunque tuvieran que torturarla.Fue apodada �la Loca� por una alegada enfermedad mental fabricada por su padre y por su hijo para alejarla del trono y mantenerla encerrada en Tordesillas de por vida. Se dec�a que la enfermedad podr�a haber sido provocada por los celos hacia su marido y por el dolor que sinti� por su muerte.
