Se cumplen doscientos años del nacimiento de Hans Christian Andersen (Odense, 1805). Con este motivo, anaya Infantil y Juvenil edita cuatro volúmenes con los Cuentos completos de Andersen. Cada uno de los volúmenes va a precedido de un prólogo a cargo de prestigiosos autores vinculados, profesional o personalmente, a estos cuentos: Fernando Savater, Gustavo Martín Garzo, José María Merino y Carmen Posadas. Las ilustraciones, otro aspecto especialmente importante en esta edición, corren a cargo de cuatro profesionales de una calidad excepcional: Pablo Auladell, Elena Odriozola, Carmen Segovia y Javier Sáez Castán. Estos cuentos contienen numerosos elementos autobiográficos, aunque pueden leerse y apreciarse perfectamente sin saber nada de la vida de su autor. La mayoría de ellos fueron creados por él, pero también hay adaptaciones de cuentos populares, como El traje nuevo del emperador. Junto a la obra de los hermanos Grimm y a la de Perrault, los cuentos de Andersen se han transmitido de generación en generación, y ya forman parte del acervo cultural de nuestra sociedad. La presente traducción, a partir del original danés, en la forma en que aparecieron los cuentos en edición completa al final de la vida del autor, ha sido realizada por Enrique Bernárdez, que además ha escrito especialmente para esta edición un exhaustivo apéndice donde se analiza la biografía el autor, así como la naturaleza e importancia de esta colección de cuentos.
