In questo modo l'uomo coltiva la speranza che mantiene viva in lui la convinzione che la sofferenza non lo annienterà, anzi, lo esalterà fino alla gloria celeste. Non dobbiamo mai dimenticare che la croce, la sofferenza non sono altro che il mezzo, lo strumento attraverso il quale possiamo e dobbiamo arrivare nella gloria: "Se il granello di frumento caduto in terra non muore, rimane solo; ma se muore produce molto frutto" (Gv 12, 24). Non è il dolore in se stesso che porta alla grandezza e alla esaltazione, ma siamo noi sofferenti che rendiamo grande la nostra croce con la nostra risposta di amore.
