En todos los escenarios académicos, políticos o militares que se analiza el complejo conflicto colombiano, es reiterativa la pregunta: —¿Cuál es la razón para que hasta la fecha haya si do imposible neutralizar a la guerrilla en el país?— Para responder este interrogante es necesario abordar varios asuntos. Un somero resumen histórico de la cuadrilla Carlos Alirio Buitrago del autodenominado Ejército de Liberación Nacional (Eln), podría ser un referente para despejar la incógnita o parte de ella, a partir de los orígenes de la subversión comunista, sumados a su crecimiento cuantitativo y cualitativo, así como a la total responsabilidad frente a tal hecho, por parte de la dirigencia política que ha gobernado a Colombia durante el último siglo. La base militar de Juanes ubicada a 50 kilómetros de San Carlos, tomó contacto con algunos familiares de los terroristas, casi todos campesinos de la región, para buscar la desmovilización voluntaria de los guerrilleros. Una mañana llegó Libardo Clavijo, un campesino curtido por el rudo trabajo del agro. Con la sencillez y sensatez de la raza paisa, la misma que descuajó la montaña para construir su futuro, habló sin tapujos: —Mi capitán: Mi hija Rubiela Clavijo alias Marina, si es guerrillera del Eln. La incorporó el padre Bernardo López Arroyave en Estación Cocorná en 1980. La envió a estudiar a la Normal de señoritas de Barrancabermeja, donde terminó de formarse como revolucionaria con unas monjas amigas del padre. Cuando regresó a Estación Cocorná, los jefes del Eln le ordenaron que no trabajara como profesora con los niños, sino que se fuera para el monte con ellos, a educar los revolucionarios. Para mayor desgracia, otro hijo se metió a las autodefensas del Magdalena Medio que dirige Ramón Isaza. Me atormenta pensar que en cualquier momento se enfrenten y se maten dos seres humanos que llevan mi sangre— Con los ojos llorosos el campesino agregó: —Solo le pido el favor, que si mi hija muere o queda herida en combate contra el Ejército, le ruego por lo que más quiera que me entreguen el cadáver o me digan en qué hospital está— Con el vívido recuerdo de aquel dramático momento, que resume la realidad de una guerra fratricida y absurda, y con la ingente documentación recaudada acerca de la historia de la cuadrilla Carlos Alirio Buitrago del Eln, surgió la idea de escribir una crónica analítica, que resume una de las etapas de la sempiterna violencia que azota a Colombia, como consta en los testimonios, análisis y referencias bibliográficas condensados en las páginas venideras. A manera de sumario, el fenómeno se podría sintetizar en: 1. La dirigencia política, nacional, regional y local, es ajena a la solución del conflicto, porque por estar inmersa en intereses politiqueros personales, desconoce el plan estratégico de los terroristas, sus objetivos y la audacia de sus métodos. 2. El Eln es una organización integral que articula estructuras políticas, ideológicas, propagandísticas, organizativas y terroristas, pero la dirigencia política, lo minimiza como cuadrillas de bandoleros que deben ser combatidos con la fuerza militar del Estado.
