Economic growth and the creation of wealth have cut global poverty rates, yet vulnerability, inequality, exclusion and violence have escalated within and across societies throughout the world. Unsustainable patterns of economic production and consumption promote global warming, environmental degradation and an upsurge in natural disasters. Moreover, while we have strengthened international human rights frameworks over the past several decades, implementing and protecting these norms remains a challenge.These changes signal the emergence of a new global context for learning that has vital implications for education. Rethinking the purpose of education and the organization of learning has never been more urgent. This book is inspired by a humanistic vision of education and development, based on respect for life and human dignity, equal rights, social justice, cultural diversity, international solidarity and shared responsibility for a sustainable future. It proposes that we consider education and knowledge as global common goods, in order to reconcile the purpose and organization of education as a collective societal endeavour in a complex world.

Este libro avanza en la tesis de la existencia de un vínculo entre las migraciones y el actual proceso de reconfiguración hegemónica, que parece delinearse desde los Estados Unidos hacia China, observando la migración en las dinámicas de la acumulación de capital a escala mundial. En este panorama, se estudian estrategias de instrumentalización de los fenómenos del auge y visibilización de las migraciones en tránsito para acceder a territorios estratégicos, como ocurre en la selva del Darién, en Centroamérica; o de la producción de la fronterización de los Estados Unidos y la detención de migrantes en México, en un régimen de movilidad y producción de inmovilidad en Norteamérica. Sobre el Cono Sur y el Caribe, el trabajo aporta estudios de caso sobre la crisis migratoria venezolana, las experiencias de la nueva oleada de migrantes cubanos y la gobernanza de las migraciones como Venezuela y Brasil, en donde soberanía, nacionalismo y desarrollo aparecen como discursos excluyentes en el marco de las relaciones interestatales. También son sujetos de estudio los jóvenes de pandillas transnacionales, los defensores de migrantes en Europa, las trabajadoras del hogar y la generación 1.5 en su retorno a México desde los Estados Unidos. Este es el sexto volumen que ha resultado del trabajo cooperativo de la Red Internacional Académica de Cooperación Internacional (RIACI), en colaboración con el Grupo de Investigación en Cooperación Sur-Sur e integraciones regionales de la Red Española de Estudios del Desarrollo (GICSS-REEDES), la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (México) y la Universidad de Cantabria (España).

This report provides one of the first comparative studies of working conditions on five major micro-task platforms that operate globally. It is based on an ILO survey covering 3,500 workers in 75 countries around the world and other qualitative surveys. The report analyses the working conditions on these micro-task platforms, including pay rates, work availability and intensity, social protection coverage and work-life balance. The report recommends 18 principles for ensuring decent work on digital labour platforms.
