Nous avons meme quelquefois employe les exemples qui nous avaient deja servi quand nous l'avons trouve utile, car si l'on pose en principe qu'il est preferable de tirer les preuves de la vie et du developpement du langage de notre propre langue, il y a des cas, surtout comme ceux des terminaisons formatives et des auxiliaires d'origine recente, ou l'on doit se servir de la langue anglaise, parce que c'est elle qui fournit les meilleurs exemples. D'ail leurs, la base des faits et des classifications linguistiques n'a pas subi depuis huit ans des changements si consi derables que l'on puisse les montrer dans une discussion aussi abregee que celle - ci. En consequence, je presente ici une esquisse de La science du langage qui ressemble beaucoup au tableau plus complet que j'ai anterieure ment trace. C'est le meme recit fait avec des couleurs un peu differentes, des proportions changees, et une grande economie de details et de citations.
