Laico non è il contrario di credente, ma l'opposto di clericale ed essere laici vuoi dire, molto semplicemente, rifiutare la pretesa di utilizzare la religione o una qualsivoglia ideologia come strumento di governo. Il volume, nel ricordo di alcuni autentici maestri di laicità, vuoi mettere in guardia contro questa pretesa che attenta alla nostra libertà di uomini e di cittadini.
