Y a-t-il, à dignité égale, deux entités dites homme et femme, séparées par le Grand Canyon de la différence sexuelle ? Ou faut-il penser cette différence comme un pur relatif, chaque être humain se situant sur un continuum de plus ou moins homme à moins ou plus femme ? Sigmund Freud a établi de quelle étrange façon la sexualité détermine l'être humain : sa pulsion n'est plus l'instinct sexuel hétéronormé des psychiatres d'alors. Avec son surprenant énoncé " Il n'y a pas de rapport sexuel " et les formules de la sexuation qui le soutiennent, Jacques Lacan est intervenu dans cet embrouillamini entre logique et sexes, inventant un nouvel opérateur, un pastout, qui pointe l'incomplétude de la chose sexuelle. Guy Le Gaufey étudie ici comment ces formules ne sont lisibles qu'au regard de contraintes formelles propres à l'enseignement de Lacan - avant tout l'invention d'un " objet partiel " sans précédent dans la psychanalyse. Relève de cette même partialité l'armature logique des formules de la sexuation, à savoir une valeur de la proposition particulière explicitement laissée de côté par Aristote et toute la tradition logique classique. Cette particularité permet de dégager la logique sous-jacente aux vignettes cliniques, brefs récits de cas censés illustrer un fragment théorique jugé par trop abstrait. Le pastout de Lacan fait valoir comment, derrière l'apparente modestie de leur naïveté empirique, ces vignettes en viennent à faire du savoir une référence inquestionnable. L'opérateur pastout réaffirme au contraire la partialité foncière et sans totalité de l'être parlant sexué.

During the third year of his famous seminar, Jacques Lacan gives a concise definition of psychoanalysis: 'Psychoanalysis should be the science of language inhabited by the subject.
