Lambs Believe in Thee is Susan Brewster's third book in the Listening Lambs trilogy. Life continues in the new house with a life so different than on the farm. The trials continue, a commonality among many people, but always with God's encouragement and help. People do not need to be alone in solving their problems. Our Lord and Shepherd can deliver expedient help to us, his lambs. A walk of faith brings unique solutions: sometimes, other times not. This book shows uncomplicated, common-sense solutions with spiritual direction to deal with life's challenges. Each dilemma becomes lighter by not relying on human resources, but on God's help. The trilogy books are for everyone to make life easier and more enriching. "You my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are people, and I am your God, declared the Sovereign Lord...I myself will search for my sheep and look after them" (Ezekiel 34:11, 31). "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep" (John 10:11).

Have you ever wondered why you believe: why you believe in this instead of that or another? Arguments, having arisen, demonstrate that any one of the belief systems was conceived by man and is used to harness, control and provide comfort and unity for the societies that man lives in: be it family, tribe, district or country. Other contentions, vehemently insisted upon, say that the belief systems originated by God's divine revelation or came straight from God by some intermediary process and represent the absolute will and sanction of God. Regardless, when the origin of any of them is traced you begin to perceive, at the very least, they first made there way to our acknowledgement by the conviction and professing of a single individual. In other words, an individual conveys an encounter with God. Who has time enough to analyze them all; and if you do, you would still find that very same fundamental fact. On that level alone they all are the same. But in such research you'll approach once again the question, why should you believe any of these belief systems that are within the use of man; as well as the fact, still remaining, that each of them is just as real to the believer as any other; perhaps some not as tenable yet, none-the-less, just as real to the believer. Is there not one that is superior to them all; and even if it is superior to them all we must remember to ask the most important question: is it also the absolute epitome of truth defining our existence and relationship with God? In addition, through your contemplation, you might observe that to believe in an organized framework of thought brings some type of peace and accord with others and is therefore considered better than believing in nothing at all. If only because of the constant wondrous display of creation ever before us: all of which exists and functions according to verifiable processes; and pondering how it all came into existence, you might find yourself at the portals of entertaining the awesome possibility of the reality of a God: which seems to coincide with a belief system already in place. If they all equate to the same end: that is the love of God perhaps that would justify the various belief systems as being useful but, is that enough? By such a position we still have the basis for a disposition of war. In this, it seems that the fundamental difference is the how and why we should deal with one another. So, I asked these questions of myself and pondered them with as much diligence as I could. In conclusion, I believe this questioning to be a reasonably primary activity of human consciousness. So why are there still so many religions? That is the reason I pose this question in writing that anyone may again, this time formally, examine their beliefs by this questioning process to surface the answer for them self. Invariably, we would find at the center of it all a preoccupation with the subject of God; either for or against and by this determine where we stand and how we should proceed with life and its issues. But, there we go again, each in our turn: some having sought to, by the imaginations of man, address a belief system based upon that very great thing as framed by the love of God. I perceive myself blessed having come to this understanding, thus the Tower of Babel. This has caused me and mankind, as whole, innumerable contemplations whether we were conscious of such a Tower or not. Jesus answered such questioners in this capacity: Thou art not far from the kingdom. The truth is that the just shall live by faith. And the faith spoken of was delivered with this conviction: Hear, oh Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Particularly in that dispensation, a future dispensation was foreshadowed: when Nicodemus asked Jesus how can these things can be, the Lord answered, if I being here now in your midst told you of earthly things and you believe not, how shall you believe if I tell you of heavenly things? ("In other-dispensation-words," first things first: there is a simple reason you have not yet even comprehended who it is standing here talking with you.) Though it is never stated literally, this book leads us to the heart of the issue which has been omitted in any known application on the doctrine of Christ since the writings of Moses. Jesus Christ would not address it because he could not give testimony of himself but simply implied that we would after that he had gone back to the Father. In the early Church's dispensation they had the advantageous sensational nearness of the advent of when Jesus Christ walked among them, as well as the lives, witnesses and convictions of the apostles which were chosen by him. Perhaps it would be in a time thereafter that he referenced: but the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away: then shall you mourn. Notice, as Jesus said to Thomas, you see me in the time of the actual advent and believe but, blessed are they who have not seen in a privilege such as yours and still believe. That latter type of believing is accomplished by a simple fundamental station in life as was pointed out by Jesus to Martha concerning Mary; and again in another place, made clearer, he said if you had believed Moses than you would believe him; for Moses spoke of him. It appears to be simply the missing link in appropriating the stone which the builders rejected. It will point the way clearly, too, why the Jewish leaders missed cognition of Jesus Christ and may easily be seen as the means to their upcoming acceptance and worship of him. It is implied however that if the time of that event should be at hand then, validly, should also be much concern for those who still reject it. With it, one may discover the actual construction of our material manifestation in its entirety. If you ever wanted comfort from, or to confront, the anxiety of the massive complexities surrounding our life and existence, this book addresses many of the most obvious deficiencies seen in any of the religions or religious applications in a single bound. This is nothing like the Mayan calendar or the predictions of Nostradamus; but may be reminiscent of the Protestant Movement: as this fills up what is lacking in that movement's substance while applauding their audacious moral inclination to decent descent. The author has reconciled himself to the fact that there will always be discord on the subject even if God himself spelled it out on the palm of his hand and laid it before our awe-stricken eyes and minds. For since this is put out before the world to see, the world indeed will not concede: hence the nature of the world. But no bearing such as the nature of the world shall be upon the fertile soul that longs to see the face of God.

I Know This Much Is True written by Wally Lamb and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-06-03 with Fiction categories.

With his stunning debut novel, She's Come Undone, Wally Lamb won the adulation of critics and readers with his mesmerizing tale of one woman's painful yet triumphant journey of self-discovery. Now, this brilliantly talented writer returns with I Know This Much Is True, a heartbreaking and poignant multigenerational saga of the reproductive bonds of destruction and the powerful force of forgiveness. A masterpiece that breathtakingly tells a story of alienation and connection, power and abuse, devastation and renewal--this novel is a contemporary retelling of an ancient Hindu myth. A proud king must confront his demons to achieve salvation. Change yourself, the myth instructs, and you will inhabit a renovated world. When you're the same brother of a schizophrenic identical twin, the tricky thing about saving yourself is the blood it leaves on your bands--the little inconvenience of the look-alike corpse at your feet. And if you're into both survival of the fittest and being your brother's keeper--if you've promised your dying mother--then say so long to sleep and hello to the middle of the night. Grab a book or a beer. Get used to Letterman's gap-toothed smile of the absurd, or the view of the bedroom ceiling, or the influence of random selection. Take it from a godless insomniac. Take it from the uncrazy twin--the guy who beat the biochemical rap. Dominick Birdsey's entire life has been compromised and constricted by anger and fear, by the paranoid schizophrenic twin brother he both deeply loves and resents, and by the past they shared with their adoptive father, Ray, a spit-and-polish ex-Navy man (the five-foot-six-inch sleeping giant who snoozed upstairs weekdays in the spare room and built submarines at night), and their long-suffering mother, Concettina, a timid woman with a harelip that made her shy and self-conscious: She holds a loose fist to her face to cover her defective mouth--her perpetual apology to the world for a birth defect over which she'd had no control. Born in the waning moments of 1949 and the opening minutes of 1950, the twins are physical mirror images who grow into separate yet connected entities: the seemingly strong and protective yet fearful Dominick, his mother's watchful "monkey"; and the seemingly weak and sweet yet noble Thomas, his mother's gentle "bunny." From childhood, Dominick fights for both separation and wholeness--and ultimately self-protection--in a house of fear dominated by Ray, a bully who abuses his power over these stepsons whose biological father is a mystery. I was still afraid of his anger but saw how he punished weakness--pounced on it. Out of self-preservation I hid my fear, Dominick confesses. As for Thomas, he just never knew how to play defense. He just didn't get it. But Dominick's talent for survival comes at an enormous cost, including the breakup of his marriage to the warm, beautiful Dessa, whom he still loves. And it will be put to the ultimate test when Thomas, a Bible-spouting zealot, commits an unthinkable act that threatens the tenuous balance of both his and Dominick's lives. To save himself, Dominick must confront not only the pain of his past but the dark secrets he has locked deep within himself, and the sins of his ancestors--a quest that will lead him beyond the confines of his blue-collar New England town to the volcanic foothills of Sicily 's Mount Etna, where his ambitious and vengefully proud grandfather and a namesake Domenico Tempesta, the sostegno del famiglia, was born. Each of the stories Ma told us about Papa reinforced the message that he was the boss, that he ruled the roost, that what he said went. Searching for answers, Dominick turns to the whispers of the dead, to the pages of his grandfather's handwritten memoir, The History of Domenico Onofrio Tempesta, a Great Man from Humble Beginnings. Rendered with touches of magic realism, Domenico's fablelike tale--in which monkeys enchant and religious statues weep--becomes the old man's confession--an unwitting legacy of contrition that reveals the truth's of Domenico's life, Dominick learns that power, wrongly used, defeats the oppressor as well as the oppressed, and now, picking through the humble shards of his deconstructed life, he will search for the courage and love to forgive, to expiate his and his ancestors' transgressions, and finally to rebuild himself beyond the haunted shadow of his twin. Set against the vivid panoply of twentieth-century America and filled with richly drawn, memorable characters, this deeply moving and thoroughly satisfying novel brings to light humanity's deepest needs and fears, our aloneness, our desire for love and acceptance, our struggle to survive at all costs. Joyous, mystical, and exquisitely written, I Know This Much Is True is an extraordinary reading experience that will leave no reader untouched.
