Die sprachliche Untersuchung setzt sich zunächst mit dem Stellenwert der Sprache in SMS zwischen Mündlichkeit und Schriftlichkeit auseinander. Infolgedessen werden die sprachlichen Strukturen und Kurzformen in Kurzmitteilungen analysiert und systematisiert. Ausgehend davon wird diskutiert, ob eine allgemeine Norm dieser Kurzformen existiert. Abschließend werden die Forschungsergebnisse mit einem Ausblick auf die aktuelle Entwicklung des Mediums SMS zusammengefasst.

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2017 im Fachbereich Französische Philologie - Linguistik, Note: 1,0, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Romanisches Seminar), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit soll einen Beitrag für ein besseres Verständnis des Phänomens SMS-Sprache leisten und diskutieren, inwiefern ihre Existenz als Gefahr für die französische Schriftnorm zu werten ist. Im ersten Schritt wird auf die besonderen Rahmenbedingungen für SMS-Sprache hingewiesen; es soll verdeutlicht werden, dass das Zusammenspiel aus medialen und kommunikativen Produktionsbedingungen das Herausbilden eines SMS-spezifischen Schriftkodes bewirken. Die eingangs präsentierten Rahmenbedingungen sollen nun dabei helfen, SMS-Kommunikation im Spektrum zwischen Mündlichkeit und Schriftlichkeit zu verorten. Hierbei wird vorrangig auf das Nähe-Distanz-Modell von Koch und Oesterreicher eingegangen. Anschließend soll der „langage SMS“ anhand zentraler sprachlicher Merkmale charakterisiert werden. Aufgrund der gesammelten Informationen wird die Streitfrage nach der potentiellen Gefahr für das normierte Französisch beantwortet werden können. Kurznachrichten werden in Frankreich tagtäglich millionenfach versendet. Die Kommunikation mittels SMS (Short Message Service) ist aus dem kommunikativen Alltag ihrer Interaktanten kaum mehr wegzudenken. Doch gerade in Frankreich häufen sich Stimmen von Sprachpuristen, die angesichts eines normfernen Schriftkodes einen Verfall der französischen Sprache wittern. In einer Forumsdiskussion mit dem Thema „Langage SMS vs langue française“ schreibt der Nutzer Nefertari2205: „Il est atroce de voir notre belle langue française ainsi maltraitée [...]. Mais utiliser ce langage un peu débile, je trouve cela lamentable, c'est ainsi que les jeunes et parfois moins jeunes n'ont plus la notion de la belle écriture et des beaux mots...“ In der zuweilen polemisch geführten öffentlichen Debatte scheint klar zu sein: SMS-Sprache und Sprachverfall stehen miteinander in enger Verbindung. Doch haben wir es wirklich mit einer besorgniserregenden Entwicklung zu tun? Müssen wir uns tatsächlich vor einer Verrohung der Sprache fürchten? Sprachwissenschaftliche Untersuchungen der letzten Jahre stellen fest, dass der „langage SMS“ von den Normen der Schriftsprache zwar deutlich abweicht, dies allein jedoch für die Schriftkultur noch keine Verarmung darstellt. Es sind technische und kommunikative Rahmenbedingungen, die die SMS-Sprache zu einem dialog- und interaktionsorientierten Schreiben und somit der Schriftnorm fern werden lassen.

Based on a corpus of private email from Jamaican university students, this study explores the discourse functions of Jamaican Creole in computer-mediated communication. From this participant-centered perspective, it contributes to the longstanding theoretical debates in creole studies about the creole continuum. The book will likewise be useful to students of computer-mediated communication, the use and development of non-standardized languages, language ecology, and codeswitching. The central methodological issue in this study is codeswitching in written language, a neglected area of study at the moment since most literature in codeswitching research is based on spoken data. The three analytical chapters present the data in a critical discussion of established and more recent theoretical approaches to codeswitching. Fields that will benefit from this book include interactional sociolinguistics, creole studies, English as a world language, computer-mediated discourse analysis, and linguistic anthropology.

This is the first volume to focus on the role of media in processes of linguistic change, one of the most contested issues in contemporary sociolinguistics. Its 17 chapters and five section commentaries present cutting-edge research from variationist and interactional sociolinguistics, media linguistics, language ideology research, and minority language studies. The volume advances our understanding of linguistic change in a mediatized world in three ways. First, it introduces the notions of sociolinguistic change and mediatization to create a broader theoretical framing than the one offered by ‘the media’ and ‘language change’. Second, it takes the discussion beyond the notions of ‘influence’ and ‘effect’ and the binary distinction of ‘media’ vs. ‘community language’.
