¿Cómo cayó Pacho en la Violencia? Este es un estudio sobre el impacto del 9 de abril y la Violencia en Pacho, Cundinamarca. Se analiza cómo este municipio, ajeno a la violencia bipartidista, se involucró en esta contienda que vivía el país. Sugiere la inversión de la pregunta: ¿fue el bipartidismo, más que la causa, una consecuencia de la Violencia? El desarrollo de la historiografía sobre la época de la Violencia en Colombia ha propuesto varias teorías y razones para explicar este fenómeno a escala nacional y regional. En Pacho Cundinamarca —caso de estudio— se focaliza la mirada en las formas de configuración social del poder local durante los años previos al 9 de abril de 1948 y el impacto del evento y de la Violencia sobre estas. Se utilizan fuentes primarias e inéditas, como la historia oral captada a través de las entrevistas a personas que vivieron la Violencia en Pacho, instrumento que da cuenta de la existencia concreta de personas reales. La investigación local se complementa con la consulta de documentos tanto privados en poder de las familias (memorias, monografías familiares, archivos fotográficos y videos de remembranzas), como públicos municipales. En una perspectiva de proceso, se observan las tensiones y las interacciones de las personas inscritas en diferentes colectivos en un mundo atravesado por múltiples oposiciones y fronteras —especialmente de clase—, y el desarrollo de estas dinámicas durante el evento y la Violencia. Se analiza cómo la problemática social que existía aflora con el evento y cómo es sofocada con la Violencia. En esta última fase, se van cerrando las fronteras y las formas de interacción entre los diversos grupos, y las oposiciones se van replegando en torno al bipartidismo. Pacho quedó dividido en dos como consecuencia de la violencia de una imposición externa.
