La publicación de este trabajo representa la concreción de un sueño postergado, que, finalmente, tomó la forma de un libro. El proyecto, presentado inicialmente hace años, fue apoyado por la Secretaría de Ciencia y Técnica, por la Editorial Universidad Adventista del Plata y por la Vicerrectoría de Investigación y Desarrollo de esta Universidad. El proyecto titulado Las primeras iglesias adventistas de la Cuenca del Plata: 1894-1906 apunta al descubrimiento del patrón de penetración del adventismo en la región del Río de la Plata y a la comprensión inicial de las estrategias y metodologías utilizadas por los primeros agentes evangelizadores en la plantación de iglesias. Evalúa parcialmente el desarrollo y el posible impacto de estas comunidades primitivas del adventismo en la región, en el surgimiento de instituciones educativas, sanitarias y del área de publicaciones, así como de nuevas congregaciones. Se ofrece un muestreo de personas que emergieron de dichas iglesias y se proyectaron hacia acciones misioneras y de servicio en el país, el continente y el mundo. El período en estudio está enmarcado entre el año de fundación de la primera iglesia en Crespo, Entre Ríos (1894), dependiente de la Misión de la Costa Oriental Sudamericana, dirigida por Frank H. Westphal e, indirectamente, de la Junta de las Misiones Extranjeras de la Asociación General de la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día, y por otro lado, el año de la organización de la Unión Asociación Sudamericana en 1906, presidida por Joseph W. Westphal. Para ese tiempo, se habían levantado iglesias en Argentina, Paraguay y Uruguay, administradas desde 1901 por la denominada Asociación del Río de la Plata. Estábamos convencidos de que el proyecto tendría un definido impacto en los lectores interesados en la temática. Creímos que su contribución al conocimiento del adventismo sería significativa, habida cuenta de la falta de trabajos de investigación relacionados con la historia de las primeras iglesias adventistas de la Cuenca del Plata. Juzgará el lector el valor de este esfuerzo de varios años en procura de una mejor comprensión de la importancia espiritual y misional del surgimiento de estas, las primeras iglesias adventistas de la Cuenca del Plata entre 1894 y 1906.

¿De dónde obtienen los cristianos la información acerca de lo que creen? ¿Cómo saben los teólogos si las doctrinas que enseñan reflejan la verdad divina? Durante siglos, los creyentes asumieron que la Biblia, que consiste del Antiguo Testamento y el Nuevo Testamento, es el origen del conocimiento cristiano. Con el paso del tiempo, se agregaron otras fuentes a las Escrituras, como la filosofía, la ciencia, la tradición y la experiencia. Con el advenimiento de la modernidad, la filosofía y la ciencia condujeron a muchos teólogos cristianos a la idea de que los documentos que comprenden las Escrituras fueron el producto del pensamiento humano y la tradición. Si el punto de vista moderno era correcto, la teología cristiana no tenía base cognitiva; quedaba sin fundamento. ¿Hay una verdad única en el cristianismo? ¿Las doctrinas cristianas describen cosas reales a nuestras mentes? ¿O son el resultado de la imaginación que fluye a través de las tradiciones en las cuales nacimos? ¿Es el punto de vista moderno del origen de la Biblia la palabra final sobre la cuestión? ¿O son viables, en los tiempos posmodernos, los puntos de vista de la iglesia clásica y de los evangélicos contemporáneos? ¿Deberíamos pensar acerca del origen del conocimiento cristiano —la revelación y la inspiración de la Escritura— construyendo un nuevo modelo que nos guíe más allá de las limitaciones de las ideas actuales? En El principio cognitivo de la teología cristiana: Un estudio hermenéutico de la revelación e inspiración de la Biblia, Canale no se dirige principalmente a la comunidad académica, sino a la comunidad cristiana pensante. La guía paso a paso para entender los modelos clásico, moderno y evangélico de revelación e inspiración analizando las presuposiciones hermenéuticas de las cuales provienen y desarrolla un modelo alternativo que armoniza con la Escritura.

El libro presenta un llamado para que la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día, como remanente del último período profético, tome la posta distintiva de misión, evangelismo e iglecrecimiento. La propuesta principal es establecer la cosmovisión de Cristo como el lente hermenéutico misionológico de comprensión, y la línea profética como el marco operativo misionológico referencial. Se destaca el rol del marco referencial bíblico, y la cosmovisión en la hermenéutica y en los componentes distintivos adventistas que la conforman. Se evalúan además desde la cosmovisión los paradigmas del movimiento popular de iglecrecimiento y otras propuestas alternativas de misión. A través de la línea profética, se destacan los cuatro ejes misionológicos operativos de Cristo, con el énfasis y la intencionalidad específica para cada suceso preanunciado. Se presenta una breve reseña histórica eclesial del legado de iglecrecimiento transferible a lo largo de la línea profética. Como cierre, se enuncia la posta latente operativa para los tiempos actuales.

The Neo-Indians is a rich ethnographic study of the emergence of the neo-Indian movement—a new form of Indian identity based on largely reinvented pre-colonial cultures and comprising a diverse group of people attempting to re-create purified pre-colonial indigenous beliefs and ritual practices without the contaminating influences of modern society. There is no full-time neo-Indian. Both indigenous and non-indigenous practitioners assume Indian identities only when deemed spiritually significant. In their daily lives, they are average members of modern society, dressing in Western clothing, working at middle-class jobs, and retaining their traditional religious identities. As a result of this part-time status the neo-Indians are often overlooked as a subject of study, making this book the first anthropological analysis of the movement. Galinier and Molinié present and analyze four decades of ethnographic research focusing on Mexico and Peru, the two major areas of the movement’s genesis. They examine the use of public space, describe the neo-Indian ceremonies, provide analysis of the ceremonies’ symbolism, and explore the close relationship between the neo-Indian religion and tourism. The Neo-Indians will be of great interest to ethnographers, anthropologists, and scholars of Latin American history, religion, and cultural studies.
