This study addresses the experiences of Latinx/e undocumented young adults in the United States. I give particular emphasis to their transition from youth to adulthood, the impacts of the Trump administration, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the general current political climate. I interviewed 8 young adults, 5 of them with DACA and 3 undocumented without DACA. As a framework, LatCrit leads to an examination of the barriers undocumented young adults face due to immigration laws, policies, and other systems of oppression. Intersectionality also frames this study to examine how gender, sexuality, parenthood, age of arrival, and current age as well as being undocumented with vs. without DACA, impact undocumented young adults. DACA recipients were more likely to be isolated from other undocumented young adults with or without DACA. Those without DACA were more likely to have undocumented friends, especially in youth. Working often lead to more interruptions in DACA recipients' higher education journey. Those without DACA were discouraged from working, had more time to dedicate to their studies, and had more family financial support, leading to better outcomes in their higher education journeys. Both groups were affected by the precarity of their status and leaned on tenets of community cultural wealth to navigate life in the United States and cultivate a sense of identity. Both groups describe needed structural changes to fix the issues they face as undocumented young adults.

This book views responses to the Covid 19 virus through the lens of indigenous thinking which sheds light on some of the failures in dealing with the pandemic. Colonial societies maintain beliefs that hierarchies are part of the natural order, and that certain people are entitled to privileges that others are not. These hierarchies have contributed to racism as well as health, and wealth disparities that have increased vulnerabilities to the virus. Indigenous societies, on the other hand, view individuals as interdependent, and hold an optimistic view that this tragedy can yield important lessons for future improvement. This book examines the legacy of colonial societies in contributing to existing vulnerabilities, and incorporates an indigenous perspective in re-imagining the problem and its solutions.
