Law And Urban Change In Brazil written by Edesio Fernandes and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with City planning and redevelopment law categories.

This book undertakes a socio-legal analysis of the relation between law and the process of urban change in Brazil throughout this century. This is done through a critique of the evolution of urban legislation, as well as the discussion of some of the main forms of legal pluralism brought about by the urban processes concerning access to urban land and housing. The book aims to widen the scope of the existing urban research, which has largely underestimated the legal dimension of the urbanization process. It also aims to offer insights which should contribute to the understanding of the democratic process of social mobilization around urban issues.

Laws Of The Landscape written by Pietro S. Nivola and has been published by Brookings Institution Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-04-01 with Political Science categories.

For decades, concerns have been raised about the consequences of relentless suburban expansion in the United States. But so far, government programs to control urban sprawl have had little effect in slowing it down, much less stopping it. In this book, Pietro S. Nivola raises important questions about the continued suburbanization of America: Is suburban growth just the result of market forces, or have government policies helped induce greater sprawl? How much of the government intervention has been undesirable, and what has been beneficial? And, if suburban growth is to be controlled, what changes in public policies would be not only effective, but practical? Nivola addresses these questions by comparing sprawling U.S. metropolitan areas to compact development patterns in Europe. He contrasts the effects of traditional urban programs, as well as "accidental urban policies" that have a profound if commonly unrecognized impact on cities, including national tax systems, energy conservation efforts, agricultural supports, and protection from international commerce. Nivola also takes a hard look at the traditional solutions of U.S. urban policy agenda involving core-area reconstruction projects, mass transit investments, "smart" growth controls, and metropolitan organizational rearrangements, and details the reasons why they often don't work. He concludes by recommending reforms for key U.S. policies--from taxes to transportation to federal regulations--based on the successes and failures of the European experience. Law And The New Urban Agenda written by Nestor M. Davidson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-23 with Architecture categories.

The New Urban Agenda (NUA), adopted in 2016 at the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in Quito, Ecuador, represents a globally shared understanding of the vital link between urbanization and a sustainable future. At the heart of this new vision stand a myriad of legal challenges – and opportunities – that must be confronted for the world to make good on the NUA’s promise. In response, this book, which complements and expands on the editors’ previous volumes on urban law in this series, offers a constructive and critical evaluation of the legal dimensions of the NUA. As the volume’s authors make clear, from natural disasters and resulting urban migration in Honshu and Tacloban, to innovative collaborative governance in Barcelona and Turin, to accessibility of public space for informal workers in New Delhi and Accra, and power scales among Brazil’s metropolitan regions, there is a deep urgency for thoughtful research to understand how law can be harnessed to advance the NUA’s global mission of sustainable urbanism. It thus creates a provocative and academic dialogue about the legal effects of the NUA, which will be of interest to academics and researchers with an interest in urban studies.
