Le colonel de La Rocque, président des Croix de feu puis du Parti social français qui regroupa près de trois millions de membres à la veille de la guerre... Rarement personnage politique des années 1930-1945 supporta autant de notoriété sulfureuse ! Il disait : " le progrès est à gauche ", mais le premier geste du Front populaire fut de dissoudre ses Croix de feu suspectées de comploter contre la République. Pris pour l'annonciateur et l'inspirateur de Vichy, il n'en fut pas moins arrêté par les nazis pour faits de résistance et déporté - en 1961, le général de Gaulle rendra justice à son combat pour la France contre l'occupant. Mais, dès son retour des camps, le gouvernement de la Libération maintint La Rocque en détention jusqu'à sa mort, sans jamais l'inculper. A travers le personnage de cet officier réprouvé par la politique, Jacques Nobécourt fait revivre toute une histoire refoulée de la France de l'entre-deux-guerres. Familier de l' "histoire immédiate ", il retrouve à partir de quantité d'archives inédites une pièce maîtresse égarée de notre puzzle politique, pour reconstituer un large courant populaire que la démocratie-chrétienne et le gaullisme représenteront sous la IVe et la Ve République.

The chief contribution of the Romans was their organisation of the stone trade by mass production, standardisation and long-distance transport. Indeed, in post-Roman Europe, especially in Britain, it was the excellence of Roman building stone which allowed so much subsequent 'quarrying' in the buildings themselves. One exception in Saxon times was the quarry for Bradford-on-Avon's church.
