Quelle est la place des femmes dans la guerre ? Comment envisagent-elles leur engagement selon qu’elles appartiennent à une armée officielle ou à un mouvement révolutionnaire ? Dans quelle mesure les revendications féministes impactent-elles les politiques internationales de défense et de sécurité ? Camille Boutron interroge le fait guerrier et le recours à la violence en évitant une forme d’essentialisme qui voudrait que, par nature, les femmes combattent différemment des hommes. Elle s’appuie notamment sur ses terrains de recherche auprès des ex-révolutionnaires au Pérou, des FARC et des militaires françaises, afin de proposer une analyse inédite du rôle des femmes dans ce qu’elle nomme la « sphère combattante ». Pour ce faire, elle scrute la façon dont le complexe militaro-industriel et le patriarcat s’alimentent mutuellement, perpétuant un système mondial à bout de souffle. Elle remet ainsi radicalement en question notre rapport aux conflits armés et nous invite, en repolitisant l’engagement des femmes pour la paix, à penser une société démilitarisée. Camille Boutron est sociologue. Chercheuse indépendante, elle est régulièrement consultée sur les questions de genre par des organismes comme l’Institut pour la paix, le Haut Conseil à l’Égalité et l’OTAN. Passionnée d’équitation, Camille Boutron est sociologue. Son intérêt pour les femmes combattantes naît d’une rencontre avec une ancienne militante du Sentier lumineux (le Parti communiste péruvien). Ses recherches la mènent ensuite en Colombie, où elle occupe un poste d’enseignante-chercheuse à l’université des Andes à Bogota, puis elle délaisse l’Amérique latine et les guérillas pour la France et ses armées. Elle a grandi à Paris et habite aujourd’hui à Saint-Sauvant, dans la Vienne.

EXTRAIT Ces femmes soldates, parfois aviatrices d’élite, ont-elles vécu leur situation comme caractéristique d’une avant-garde émancipée ou comme une violence imposée ? Dans les années 1970, Svetlana Alexievitch, qui recevra le prix Nobel de littérature en 2015, commença à enregistrer des récits de femmes qui avaient combattu pendant la seconde guerre mondiale : ils sont à l’origine de la publication en russe de son premier livre, La guerre n’a pas un visage de femme, en 1985. La gestion patriarcale de la mémoire avait mis de côté le million deux cent mille femmes soviétiques enrôlées dans l’Armée rouge, et les femmes innombrables qui avaient combattu dans les formations de partisans. La guerre avait bien eu « un visage de femme » car les jeunes femmes soviétiques s’étaient précipitées spontanément pour s’engager afin de remplacer les hommes fauchés par les Allemands. Mais, en général, elles avaient été marquées plus douloureusement que les hommes par « cette difficulté de tuer avec des mains de jeune fille ». Contrairement aux hommes, elles n’avaient pas intériorisé des modèles héroïques susceptibles de les guider dans ce rôle nouveau et portaient le poids d’une impréparation culturelle à la guerre et au métier des armes, jugé incompatible avec leur nature de « mère qui donne la vie ». L’une d’elles a écrit sur les murs du Reichstag « Moi, Sofia Kunchevich, je suis venue ici pour tuer la guerre » ...
