Comment le personnage du loup-garou s’illustre-t-il dans la littérature contemporaine ? Pour étudier la légende lycanthropique, trois romans : Cycle of the Werewolf (1983) de Stephen King, L’Homme à l’envers (1999) de Fred Vargas et Le Livre sacré du loup-garou (2004) de Viktor Pelevine. Un corpus décortiqué à la faveur de thèmes tels que le lien unissant le loup-garou à ses jumeaux fictionnels que sont le vampire et le fantôme, mais aussi à ses nombreux avatars, comme la tristement célèbre Bête du Gévaudan. Une étude de l’espace-temps lycanthropique annonce, par la suite, l’étude des conditions de vie du loup-garou : sa sexualité, son appartenance religieuse ou encore sa psyché. Death is an inevitable, yet mysterious event. Fiction is one way to imagine and gain knowledge of death. Death is very useful to literature, as it creates plot twists, suspense, mysteries, and emotional effects in narrations. But more importantly, stories about death seem to have an existential importance to our lives. Stories provide fictional encounters with death and give meaning for both death and life. Thus, death is more than a physical or psychological experience in literature; it also highlights existential questions concerning humanity and storytelling.
