Longtemps en Occident les mythes n'ont pas eu bonne presse, notre approche rationaliste les réduisant à de purs et simples mensonges. Mensonges peut-être, mais mensonges indispensables. Ainsi en est-il de Clovis par exemple et du mythe d'une identité française parfaitement pure depuis quinze siècles. Cette fiction a fourni des repères rassurants à ceux que désorientait l'affaiblissement de l'Etat-nation sous l'effet de l'internationalisation. Parallèlement l'exploitation de cette contrevérité manifeste par des hommes d'Eglise et des politiciens n'a pu que compromettre la nécessaire prise de conscience des transformations de notre société. Cet exemple illustre la redoutable ambiguïté du mythe. Il n'a besoin ni de pourfendeurs ni d'apologues, mais d'une compréhension de sa part de lumières et de sa part d'ombres. Si le mythe efficace est nécessairement passager, il est dans tous les cas nécessairement mensonger, car nul n'est capable d'accepter sur le champ une réalité catastrophique. Avec des succès divers, il aide les individus à assimiler les expériences difficiles qu'ils partagent et participe à la genèse et à l'équilibre des liens sociaux. Les travaux de Pascal Hachet, psychologue et docteur en psychanalyse, s'inscrivent dans la filiation des recherches de Nicolas Abraham et de Maria Torok. Il apporte des réponses novatrices pour la compréhension et le traitement psychanalytique des toxicomanies, notamment dans son ouvrage Les Toxicomanes et leurs secrets.

Speaking Memory evokes the complex "language-scapes" that form at the crossroads of culture and history in cities. While engaging with current debates on the nature and role of translation in globalized urban landscapes, the contributors offer a series of detailed and nuanced readings of “translational” cities – their histories, their construction and transformation in memory, and the artistic projects that tell their stories. The three sections of the book highlight historical case studies, conceptual issues, and text-based analyses of city scripts, in particular as they relate to creative literary practices and language interventions on the surface of the city itself. In this volume, translation points to the dissonance of city life, but also to the possibility of a generalized, public discourse – a space vital to urban citizenship, where the convergence of languages can be the source of new conversations. In the context of the ever-increasing political problematization of migration in Europe, agencies charged with migrant administration create diverse categories of difference to distinguish between the »deserving migrant« and the illegal one: They assess the detainability or the credibility of asylum seekers, the danger posed by Islamic organizations, and make situational decisions that determine whether migration or labour law applies to individual agricultural workers. In this book, each chapter analyses how organizational interpretations of the common good shape bureaucratic practices. This edited collection published in Migration Letters were selected to reflect on methodological challenges faced by researchers and students when conducting qualitative studies on migration. Beginning with papers focusing on broader discussions of methodological issues and some options available to researchers, the latter half of the book explores the narrative methodology in depth with references to several cases. The chapters included in this book was originally published in regular issues and two special issues of Migration Letters journal from 2009 onwards. We have regrouped and ordered these studies to enhance the flow and transition in the book. The first six chapters look into more general issues and debates in migration research methodologies, while chapters seven to ten offer cases studies on alternative qualitative methodologies and then the final six chapters focus on narratives and challenges of the narrative methodology applied in migration studies.
