Son éducation va lui apprendre les choses de la vie qui lui sont hélas inaccessibles, les couleurs par exemple, c'est la musique qui le guidera. La jeune mère était couchée, assoupie, mais lorsque le premier cri du nouveau-né — un vagissement doux et plaintif — retentit dans la chambre, la jeune femme, les yeux fermés, commença à s’agiter dans son lit. Ses lèvres murmuraient quelque chose et sur son visage pâle, aux traits fondus presque enfantins, parut une grimace de souffrance impatiente, comme chez un enfant gâté éprouvant un chagrin inaccoutumé. La sage-femme inclina l’oreille vers les lèvres balbutiantes de la jeune mère. — Pourquoi ?... Pourquoi fait-il cela ? demanda la malade d’une voix à peine perceptible.
