Fruit d'une collaboration étroite entre l'Institut pour le développement forestier et l'Association française d'agroforesterie, ce guide synthétise les connaissances et savoir-faire nécessaires à la plantation, la conduite et l'exploitation du peuplier en champ. Le peuplier est une culture d’intérêt majeur pour l’agroforesterie en raison de sa vitesse de croissance comme de son ancrage historique dans les territoires. Il représente un choix judicieux pour les agriculteurs souhaitant diversifier leurs débouchés et (ré)intégrer les arbres dans leurs systèmes de culture ou d’élevage. Les voies de valorisation de son bois sont très nombreux : emballage léger, panneaux (contreplaqué, OSB…), palettes, construction bois et bois énergie. L’agroforesterie est par ailleurs une opportunité pour combler l’actuel déficit de production en bois de peuplier et mobiliser le monde agricole afin d’augmenter les sources d’approvisionnement. Hormis les enjeux économiques que cet arbre clé du paysage rural français représente pour nos campagnes, le peuplier agroforestier constitue également une ouverture vers des itinéraires de production plus éco-responsables.
