Quante opportunità di cittadinanza ci offre, oggi, lo spazio pubblico? Quanto spesso abbiamo occasione di sperimentarci, insieme ad altri, in azioni pratiche dove le nostre necessità trovano soluzioni che chiamano in causa gli assetti sociali più generali e i bisogni degli 'altri'? In molti Paesi europei le piazze sono piene, le strade invase e lo spazio pubblico è un rituale che crea effervescenza collettiva, solidarietà, capacità di futuro. Una situazione impensabile in Italia, dove le pratiche associative e la partecipazione sociale non alimentano più il circuito della rappresentanza politica. La domanda di futuro rimane drammaticamente separata dalla sua offerta. La chiusura nel presente alimenta una politica della paura e della rabbia, dove conta la distanza guadagnata da chi è più debole. Occorre ricostruire la capacità collettiva di futuro nei diritti di cittadinanza, nella rappresentanza politica e nel governo dei luoghi di vita e di lavoro. Occorre fare spazio alla politica per dare voce a chi ha meno potere. Solo in questo modo i bisogni individuali diventano soluzioni universalistiche, generative di nuove forme dell'agire in comune. Un saggio originale sulla necessità di progettare un futuro condiviso a partire dagli spazi della politica e dai luoghi di vita e di lavoro delle persone.

Se c’è una costante che si ripresenta a ogni appuntamento elettorale, è il dato sull’astensionismo. La scelta di non votare, che sia espressione di disillusione o di protesta, pone ineludibili interrogativi sulla tenuta democratica del Paese. Perché non c’è democrazia senza rappresentanza. E non c’è rappresentanza senza la partecipazione dei cittadini alla vita politica. Nel saggio l’autrice si interroga su questo fenomeno, ma riflette anche su coloro a cui sono oggi negati i diritti politici, come gli stranieri, e su chi risulta escluso dalla rappresentanza a causa delle storture di modelli elettorali e istituzionali falsamente democratici, perché piegati all’imperativo della governabilità. Che dire poi di soggetti come le generazioni future, gli animali, la natura, oggi per lo più privi di qualcuno che ne tuteli gli interessi nelle istituzioni? Essenziale nel ragionamento di Pazé la riflessione su quali possano essere i modelli di governo realmente in grado di garantire la rappresentanza e la partecipazione delle cittadine e dei cittadini, anche con riferimento alla discussa «madre di tutte le riforme», il premierato.

In recent years, Alternative Food Networks (AFNs) have been a key issue both in the scientific community and in public debates. This is due to their profound implications for rural development, local sustainability, and bio-economics. This edited collection discusses what the main determinants of the participation of operators – both consumers and producers – in AFNs are, what the conditions for their sustainability are, what their social and environmental effects are, and how they are distributed geographically. Further discussions include the effect of AFNs in structuring the food chain and how AFNs can be successfully scaled up. The authors explicitly take an interdisciplinary approach to analyse AFNs from different perspectives, using as an example the Italian region of Piedmont, a particularly interesting case study due to the diffusion of AFNs in the area, as well as due to the fact that it was in this region that the ‘Slow Food’ movement originated.
