Tous les Français ont une certaine idée de notre agriculture. Pour la plupart, ils jugent sévèrement notre politique agricole, tout en gardant une certaine sympathie pour les paysans et pour la vie rurale. L'agriculture française est-elle en train de devenir notre « pétrole vert », ou est-elle déjà l'un de ces « canards boiteux » qui encombrent notre pays ? Le problème agricole français, c'est cette incertitude, mais c'est aussi plusieurs questions : — L'agriculture française doit-elle viser l'expansion ou se replier dans un malthusianisme frileux ? — La politique agricole française doit-elle viser la compétitivité ou aider à tout prix les plus faibles ? — La politique agricole française doit-elle revenir aux frontières nationales, ou bien doit-elle choisir l'Europe, quitte à s'adapter aux réalités du monde des années 80 ? — La politique agricole française doit-elle penser surtout aux agriculteurs, ou aussi, et de plus en plus, aux consommateurs ? — La politique agricole française doit-elle penser aussi à l'emploi, aux zones rurales défavorisées, à l'environnement ? A ces cinq questions, et à bien d'autres, ce livre répond. Mais « il propose des interprétations plus qu'il n'assène « sa » vérité, il interroge plus qu'il n'affirme, il se veut autant question que réponse ». Nul doute que ce livre contribuera à mieux faire comprendre le problème agricole français. Pierre LE ROY - 40 ans - Marié - deux enfants. Fils de petits agriculteurs du Finistère, ancien élève de l'ENA, Pierre LE ROY a fait toute sa carrière dans l'agriculture. Membre de plusieurs cabinets ministériels entre 1973 et 1978, Pierre Le ROY est aussi l'auteur de L'avenir de l'agriculture française (Collection Que Sais-je - 3e édition en 1980), et de L'avenir du marché commun agricole (PUF - 1973). Membre du Comité Économique et Social de la Bretagne depuis 1973, il est l'un des auteurs du Défi armoricain (Armor Editeur - 1976). Pierre LE ROY est actuellement Chef du Service agricole au Commissariat Général du Plan, mais ce livre n'engage pas l'organisation gouvernementale à laquelle il appartient.
