C’est dans la vie quotidienne que se réalise le salut des hommes. Et c’est la réalité de nos existences que Dieu vient chaque jour visiter. Depuis l’origine du monde, Dieu veut entrer en dialogue avec chaque homme et chaque femme. C’est sur ce dialogue que le pape Paul VI revient de manière décisive dans sa première encyclique Ecclesiam suam de 1964. Dieu intervient dans l’histoire des hommes pour les rendre capables de dialogue avec lui et entre eux. Le pape François, qui vient de canoniser Paul VI, insiste lui aussi sur le dialogue d’amour comme expérience du salut. Au coeur de ce dialogue, chacun est écouté, reçu, et se découvre aimé. C’est ce que Dieu offre à l’homme, gratuitement. C’est ce qui le rend libre. Dominicain, professeur et doyen honoraire de la Faculté de Théologie de l’Institut catholique de Paris, président de la Revue internationale de Théologie – Concilium, Thierry-Marie Courau est aussi l’auteur, au Cerf, d’une nouvelle sur le dialogue entre bouddhisme et christianisme : Les fontaines de l’Éveil, 2016.

The central Christian belief in salvation through the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ remains one of the most intractable mysteries of Christian faith. Throughout history, it has given rise to various theories of atonement, many of which have been subject to critique as they no longer speak to contemporary notions of evil and sin or to current conceptions of justice. One of the important challenges for contemporary Christian theology thus involves exploring new ways of understanding the salvific meaning of the cross. In Atonement and Comparative Theology, Christian theologians with expertise in Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, and African Religions reflect on how engagement with these traditions sheds new light on the Christian understanding of atonement by pointing to analogous structures of sin and salvation, drawing attention to the scandal of the cross as seen by the religious other, and re-interpreting aspects of the Christian understanding of atonement. Together, they illustrate the possibilities for comparative theology to deepen and enrich Christian theological reflection.

Voila qui resume bien la doctrine centrale de ce dialogue de revelation entre Jesus, le revelateur descendu du Plerome, et ses disciples Marie, Matthieu et Jude. Document manifestement chretien, mais demeure inconnu jusqu'a sa decouverte en Haute Egypte en 1945, le Dialogue du Sauveur presente l'ultime enseignement que Jesus adressa a ses disciples avant de quitter ce monde. Si l'elu se connait lui-meme et trouve a l'interieur de lui-meme sa racine de lumiere en se debarrassant de la colere, de l'envie et des autres passions suscitees par les tenebres, il peut deja 'voir' le lieu du repos. Mais il n'atteindra a la grande vision eternelle du Dieu vivant qu'apres la dissolution, lorsque l'ame abandonnera le corps pour echapper aux archontes, eons et puissances celestes qui veulent la retenir captive en ce monde de pauvrete. Alors seulement celle-ci pourra-t-elle entrer dans la chambre nuptiale pour etre eternellement unie a son conjoint celeste. On cherchera en vain dans le Dialogue du Sauveur cet anticosmisme radical qui considere le monde materiel cree par un demiurge mauvais ou ignorant comme la source de tous les maux accablant l'humanite. Et ce n'est qu'avec un oeil averti qu'on peut y detecter le mythe de la chute d'une semence pneumatique issue du Plerome. Le document s'inscrit malgre tout dans le courant gnostique, affichant une doctrine valentinienne epuree qui temoigne d'une volonte de rapprochement avec la 'Grande Eglise'.
