C'est pour pouvoir répondre à de telles questions, qu'Édith Archambault et Xavier Greffe ont réuni et présenté, dans ce livre, les contributions de certains des meilleurs spécialistes internationaux du sujet. Permettant de faire le point sur des débats et travaux actuels sur l'économie non officielle, cet ensemble original aborde le problème dans toute sa diversité, à partir d'études théoriques et empiriques menées sur les économies du Nord, de l'Est et du Sud. Édith Archambault et Xavier Greffe montrent comment cette diversité invite à parler d'économies non officielles, plutôt que d'une économie non officielle, tant la confusion entre l'informel et l'illégal paraît ambiguë. Car la mondialisation, elle, éloigne le pouvoir du citoyen, tout transformant le local.
