Célèbre dans le monde du vin pour avoir converti en biodynamie dès 1984 son prestigieux vignoble, La Coulée de Serrant (à Savennières, Maine et Loire), Nicolas Joly livre quelques uns des secrets de son art viticole dans cette nouvelle édition revue et augmentée de son ouvrage devenu un classique de la littérature sur le vin. Grâce à ce livre et aux nombreuses conférences qu'il donne, l'auteur contribue à populariser la biodynamie qui fait de plus en plus d'adeptes tant chez les amateurs de bons vins que chez les producteurs. Agissant avec subtilité, comme l'homéopathie en médecine, la biodynamie permet de restituer dans le vin la personnalité du terroir et de redonner un sens à la notion d'appellation d'origine contrôlée (A.O.C.). " Plus on s'écarte des lois du vivant, plus on impose des artifices qui n'étaient pas indispensables, tant pour soigner la vigne que pour bonifier le vin ", écrit l'auteur qui remet à sa juste place la vinification en cave, non plus considérée comme une réparation des insuffisances du travail dans la vigne mais au contraire comme l'exaltation de la qualité des vendanges. Dans un langage accessible au non initié, Nicolas Joly révèle l'originalité de cette agriculture qu'il exerce avec tant de bonheur et de réussite. Une pratique qui consiste non seulement à renforcer la vie du sol dans sa typicité en l'imprégnant de matière animale et végétale (compost) mais aussi, par l'utilisation de préparats, à aider le végétal à se nourrir de lumière et de chaleur (améliorer sa photosynthèse). S'inspirant de la pensée visionnaire de Rudolf Steiner, l'auteur décrit le sol comme le dernier maillon, ou le relais, d'un monde plus subtil, moins tangible, qui est situé dans l'atmosphère. II traite aussi du rôle des planètes (astronomie et non astrologie) puisqu'en biodynamie, les sols sont considérés comme un miroir du cosmos. En préfaçant cet ouvrage, David Ridgway, sommelier de " La Tour d'Argent ", apporte la caution d'un grand connaisseur qui a depuis plusieurs années inscrit des vins en biodynamie sur la carte de ce prestigieux restaurant parisien, connu dans le monde entier comme " La Coulée de Serrant " dont la renommée est internationale.

Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde (1854 – 1900) was an Irish writer and poet. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of London's most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. Today he is remembered for his epigrams and plays, and the circumstances of his imprisonment which was followed by his early death. At the turn of the 1890s, he refined his ideas about the supremacy of art in a series of dialogues and essays, and incorporated themes of decadence, duplicity, and beauty into his only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890). The opportunity to construct aesthetic details precisely, and combine them with larger social themes, drew Wilde to write drama. He wrote Salome (1891) in French in Paris but it was refused a licence. Unperturbed, Wilde produced four society comedies in the early 1890s, which made him one of the most successful playwrights of late Victorian London. At the height of his fame and success, while his masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest (1895), was still on stage in London, Wilde had the Marquess of Queensberry, the father of his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, prosecuted for libel, a charge carrying a penalty of up to two years in prison. The trial unearthed evidence that caused Wilde to drop his charges and led to his own arrest and trial for gross indecency with other men. After two more trials he was convicted and imprisoned for two years' hard labour. In 1897, in prison, he wrote De Profundis which was published in 1905, a long letter which discusses his spiritual journey through his trials, forming a dark counterpoint to his earlier philosophy of pleasure. Upon his release he left immediately for France, never to return to Ireland or Britain. There he wrote his last work, The Ballad of Reading Gaol (1898), a long poem commemorating the harsh rhythms of prison life. He died destitute in Paris at the age of forty-six.
