This article examines the influence that emerging preferences (i.e., leaders) have on predecisional information search. We consider two possibilities. First, decision makers may seek information they expect will support their leader (leader-supporting search). Second, decision makers may seek information about their leader, irrespective of the expected valence of the information (leader-focused search). Across various studies, product domains and experimental designs, we consistently find evidence of leader-focused search, and little or no evidence of leader-supporting search. We also find leader-focused search can potentially undermine decision quality, e.g. by steering decision makers towards information sources that are less credible and/or less important.

Strengths-Focused Leadership is the only step-by-step practical guide on the market to identifying and enhancing people’s innate strengths - which leads to higher levels of energy, job satisfaction and engagement. Rather than relying on online assessment tools, this book shows you how to discover your strengths yourself and how to use this process to assist others. The authors have used their executive coaching backgrounds to build a practical model for using and applying the strengths focus. The MORE model focuses on 4 key elements: Myself – how do I identify and develop my own strengths and overcome my weaknesses? Others – how do I help my people do the same? Regular conversations – how do I ensure that ‘strengths thinking’ becomes part of business as usual? Employee processes – how do I apply a strengths focus to recruitment, induction and performance? Broken into 3 chapters on each element, the Model teaches you how to use the strengths focus to tackle key business challenges – collaboration, change and strategy.

Traditional organizational boundaries limit our ability to deliver results. The Connected Leader argues that many of the old leadership recipes are outdated and don't take into account changes in the work environment and informal social networks within the organization. Taking a new approach to leadership theory, the author argues that modern leaders engage with employees and improve performance by building on trust, giving meaning to workplace relationships and by creating dialogue within the organization. The Connected Leader provides diagnostic tools for readers to evaluate their own skills and directly relate the insights from the book to their own situation. International case studies provide clear examples of connected leadership.

What truly drives a leader? The role of leadership is crucial to every occupation-whether you're in business, or government, whether you're a parent or a teacher, and whether you're at the early stages of your career, or are at a crossroads after decades of success. Linkage CEO Phil Harkins and ARC Financial Corp cofounder Phil Swift have enjoyed decades of experience in leading and working with other leaders. Along the way they became aware that many leaders find themselves in search of their personal purpose for leading. This search led them on a new journey--traveling around the world to interview corporate executives, presidents and prime ministers, educators, an important spiritual leader, and other leaders in a wide array of fields, including Mary Robinson, first female president of Ireland Henri Landwirth, holocaust survivor, hotel mogul, philanthropist Mikhail Gorbachev, former president of the Soviet Union and 1990 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize Rafiah Salim, International Center for Leadership in Finance, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management, U.N. Rajaa Khuzai, former Member of the Iraqi Governing Council Benazir Bhutto, former prime minister of Pakistan Erin Gruwell, Freedom Writers founder and education innovator Harkins and Swift asked each of these leaders the fundamental question “Why Lead?” The answers were startling in their wide range and also the commonality of a recurring theme. Essentially, great leaders, at some point in time, all experience a transformational shift that motivates them to move to the next level by thinking and operating outside the box of personal power and material gain. In Search of Leadership reveals the essential qualities and life lessons of leaders who have made this shift. The authors found that all great leaders eventually realize the need to serve not only their organization but society and the world at large. By doing so, they give profound new meaning to what they do and why.

The Insightful Leader is the secret formula for claiming your best leadership and using it to achieve unlimited success. Traditional leadership coaching asks leaders to substitute ineffective behaviors with alternatives, without addressing the underlying internal beliefs that reinforce the old behaviors. After months of successfully trying to change, a leader may suddenly face stressors at work—a looming deadline or a difficult negotiation—that trigger counterproductive behavior, resulting in guilt, shame, and frustration. The Insightful Leader first helps readers to recognize ineffective behaviors that may be connected to one or more of ten "superpowers," or overused strengths. Readers embark on a step-by-step process, identifying their superpowers and understanding the strengths of these superpowers as well as when their overuse may cause them to be perceived as egotistical or manipulative. Having deepened their understanding of their superpowers, leaders then use them as a catalyst to discover adversity they may have faced in their past. The book guides them to uncover survival beliefs held over from these experiences and to reprogram them such that they no longer trigger self-destructive habits but instead focus on recent successes. Finally, tips are provided to help leaders to successfully sustain this transformation.
