A former Senior VP of Apple shares how Steve Jobs motivated people to do the best work of their lives Jay Elliot was hired personally by Steve Jobs, just in time to accompany him on the last of his historic visits to Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center, the visits that changed the course of computing. As Senior VP of Apple, Jay served as Steve's right-hand man and trouble-shooter, overseeing all corporate operations and business planning, as well as software development and HR. In Leading Apple with Steve Jobs, Jay details how Steve managed and motivated his people—and what every manager can learn from Jobs about motivating people to do the best work of their lives. Steve Jobs used the phrase "Pirates! Not the Navy" as a rallying cry—a metaphor to "Think Different." In the days of developing the Macintosh, it became a four-word mission statement. It expresses the heart of Apple and Steve. The management principles that grew out of that statement form the backbone of this book. Explains how to find talented people who will understand your objectives and be able to make a contribution to that effort Lists traits that can determine whether a person will be so committed to the vision that they will provide their own motivation Explains how to ensure that your employees hold an allegiance to the captain and to his/her shipmates, and also possess the ability to come up with original, unique ways to approach a problem, and be self-guided with a strong sense of direction Leading Apple with Steve Jobs will shift your thought paradigm and inspire you to assemble and lead innovative teams.

Becoming Steve Jobs written by Brent Schlender and has been published by Crown Currency this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-24 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

The #1 New York Times bestselling biography of how Steve Jobs became the most visionary CEO in history. Becoming Steve Jobs breaks down the conventional, one-dimensional view of Steve Jobs that he was half-genius, half-jerk from youth, an irascible and selfish leader who slighted friends and family alike. Becoming Steve Jobs answers the central question about the life and career of the Apple cofounder and CEO: How did a young man so reckless and arrogant that he was exiled from the company he founded become the most effective visionary business leader of our time, ultimately transforming the daily life of billions of people? Drawing on incredible and sometimes exclusive access, Schlender and Tetzeli tell a different story of a real human being who wrestled with his failings and learned to maximize his strengths over time. Their rich, compelling narrative is filled with stories never told before from the people who knew Jobs best, including his family, former inner circle executives, and top people at Apple, Pixar and Disney, most notably Tim Cook, Jony Ive, Eddy Cue, Ed Catmull, John Lasseter, Robert Iger and many others. In addition, Schlender knew Jobs personally for 25 years and draws upon his many interviews with him, on and off the record, in writing the book. He and Tetzeli humanize the man and explain, rather than simply describe, his behavior. Along the way, the book provides rich context about the technology revolution we've all lived through, and the ways in which Jobs changed our world. A rich and revealing account, Becoming Steve Jobs shows us how one of the most colorful and compelling figures of our times was able to combine his unchanging, relentless passion with an evolution in management style to create one of the most valuable and beloved companies on the planet.

Essay from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, language: English, abstract: This critical essay illustrates the transformational leadership of Steve Jobs, using both theory and practice, in light of several definitions of leadership suggested by prior theorists and a review of associated leadership traits, such as charisma, innovation and motivation. This paper also recounts the history of Apple Inc., as co-founded by Steve Jobs in the late 1970s. Furthermore, Apple is reviewed here in terms of Jobs' achievements, such as his creations of the Mac, iTunes and such devices as the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad. Apple stands out from comparable companies due to its unusual selling ideas, which continually rebuild the standards for product, advertising, and business improvement. Apple Computers was created in April 1976 by 25-year-old Steve Wozniak and 21-year old Steve Jobs, neither of whom had graduated from university. The two sold a van to earn start-up money and placed a mini shop in the Jobs' house gargae in California, where they started creating computers. This paper takes a look at the exceptional story behind Apple, Inc.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, , language: English, abstract: This research paper is an attempt to examine the leadership strategies followed by the world’s most valuable company. Leadership is indeed one of the most important aspects of any company and Apple has displayed extraordinary breakthroughs right from when it was founded. Steve Jobs left the world on October 5, 2011 to leave Tim Cook as the CEO of Apple Inc. To a normal person who sees Apple from the outside as a company, there might have not been any noticeable changes. But there must have been some vicissitudes at least in the way Apple is functioning right now. There is no doubt that Steve Jobs created and raised Apple from a baby into a giant, and many believe that Apple has lost a well treasured leader. This research will compare and contrast the leadership styles of both the leaders in an attempt to find which one suits the company best, and also analyze if Cook really has the potential to be in the driver’s seat of Apple.

In an attempt to answer the question of how leaders lead, this book looks at the leadership of Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs's leadership displayed commitment to others and the principles of the companies he led. Subordinating his ego to changing the world through technology, a passion for design, and the intersection of technology and creativity, Steve Jobs was able to engage his leadership teams to drive changes that made Apple, NeXT, and Pixar exemplars in their industries. However, there were times when Steve Jobs neglected to set aside his need for power and control, using his strong voice to impress others. Nevertheless, Steve Jobs's leadership revealed that self-development includes making meaning of climactic ordeals, such as when John Sculley asked him to step down from Apple's CEO position in 1985. Being fired from Apple contradicted Steve Jobs's view of his success at Apple and became an impetus for self-development. In acting out precepts of Zen Buddhism, such as direct insight, wisdom, and rational understanding, instinctively felt through meditation, his leadership revealed a connection to a spiritual foundation. Moreover, Steve Jobs's leadership exhibited a commitment to ethics and integrity in the way he went back to Apple in 1997, terminated Apple's philanthropic programs that year, returned backdated options in 2001, re-launched Apple's philanthropic programs in 2006, and addressed the FoxComm suicides in 2010. However, the extent of a commitment to ethics and integrity in his leadership differed during Project Breakout in 1972, the 2005 Google agreement, and events following the 2010 Foxconn suicides.
