Leaping Poetry is Robert Bly's testament to the singular importance of the artistic leap that bridges the gap between conscious and unconscious thought in any great work of art; the process that Bly refers to as "riding on dragons." Originally published in 1972 in Bly's literary journal The Seventies, Leaping Poetry is part anthology and part commentary, wherein Bly seeks to rejuvenate modern Western poetry through his revelations of "leaping" as found in the works of poets from around the world, including Federico Garcia Lorca, Chu Yuan, Tomas Transtromer, and Allen Ginsberg, among others, while also outlining the basic principles that shape his own poetry. Bly seeks the use of quick, free association of the known and the unknown-the innate animal and rational cognition-which, he maintains, have been kept apart in the development of Western religious, intellectual, and literary thought.

This collection, Morton’s tenth, is a bold book of poetry delving into risks. It’s the moving forward; the constant discovery of new things. Using a combination of quotes, mythological images, and exquisite metaphors from nature, Morton delivers poems that describe the absolute urgency of giving one’s heart over to life, the burning drive to have faith in the world, the insistence that everything, in its own way, is holy. This book is unfettered joy. Tending Fires I wanted to write a sonnet last night, because that’s what lovers do, but the fire needed tending, and all I could think of were your shoulders, and that’s not romantic, so I put on another log, and thought about that hot summer day underneath that oak, when our shoulders brushed, and I blushed at the nearness of you, and how we made love that night . . . still . . . that’s not what I wanted to write . . . But it’s you; you, my love. You are my night and my morning, and the hot coals beneath these logs . . . hear them hiss and whisper like cicadas—cicadas of the trees, and the summer, and of all things that burn.

Leaping Grounds and Darkling Horizons is a poetic voyage of many aspects. It begins with poetic attempts to address the feelings of getting used to being one in one's own skin, of growing old, of coming to terms with one's nature, as a poet, as a person, as a mortal being. On occasion, I dwelled on philosophic thoughts, which you might also wish to ponder about, such as the following short haiku-like poem describes: "As one minute hands the universe to the next a lot is lost in translation. " That part of the voyage also has some interesting, near fantasy pieces, among them are a vision of a giant leopard in the sky following one around; and as a contrary example of the endless boundaries of fantastic images, a dialogue with the waiting laundry. Significant parts of this book were written while I was escorting my beloved mother, Sara, may she rest in peace, in a serious illness. The part headed "my fears of the death and the life of my mother" describes directly feelings and thoughts experienced during that time: the poems were written during her illness, after she had miraculously recuperated, during the remaining years of her life as a happy person despite her illness-caused disabilities, and after her death. Naturally, those parts of the book are sadder, for such ordeals are naturally sad. The poems tell of my experiences as my mother nearly died, survived, of her life following that ordeal, of my experience escorting my beloved mother in her old age, and of the final, unavoidable, farewell. There is a gulf of feelings and emotions in that part, whose boundaries may be stated to roughly lie between the one marked by the poem that starts this part with the words: "Ever since my mother nearly died, I am living my mother's death... I am torn between fearing that she dies and hoping for her, that she moves on to the next phase of her existence, with no suffering, with dignity and love" and the one marked by the final poem of that part, a lamenting song, which starts with the words - "pray don't mistake me for a normal mortal for I am a lamenting soul". The poetic voyage does not end there, in those lamenting moments. The voyage moves on - to dwell on the gifts of remembrance of love, of poetry introduced to me by my mother, and delves into poetic dialogues with Poe's Raven, Celan's death fugue, and others, such as a frolicking dialogue with one of Carole's jests. That section of the book is exemplifying the tension between two poles: One pole, as the last verse of the poem-dialogue replying to Van Gogh's famous last words, "the sadness will last forever" with the statement: "There can be no sadness without joy. and those memories of joy, I wish to tell that dying painter, they too last for eternity." The other pole, of poetry's therapeutic nature, as another's poems last verse states: "For Poems, sadly, are not shields, either. And yet, after the mayhem, when you seek healing, when you seek escape from the pain and the sadness, Poems will always come for your help. For Poems are not swords." The voyage ends with a tone of hope, as the final poem of the book suggests in its final words: "even though the horizons are darkening there may still come a leaping ground that will help one see - where there is life there is hope." I hope with whole my heart that this book shall be such a leaping ground for you, dear reader.

Annotation The ancient capital of England, with its jumbled historical multiplicity, is the setting for a sequence that moves through self-discovery and the pain of a broken marriage to a fulfilled delight at the processes of art and religious faith. Draws on what Donald Davie has discerned as Hooker's presiding territory: "the emotion that we have when we recognise some particular terrain as 'home'"

Ria Kinzel's fiercely honest poetry is an inspiration to speak your own truth. In her extraordinary poem, "Coming of Rage," she witnesses against injustice and cruelty as she discovers for herself oppression in apartheid South Africa, denigration of women, and a religion of sin and shame. Follow her through time and geography to growing wisdom in "Questions of Voice." With humor and tenderness, she shares "Grace Notes" of her life -- midwives, meditation, laughing children, ice mountains, wolverine ecstasy, spring sun, and doves of forgiveness. Ria Kinzel's poems have taken root "deep in the dandelion cracks of my mind." Her poetry is powerful and can open the hearts of her readers. Ria Kinzel grew up in South Africa. After clashing violently with the Apartheid government, she emigrated to Canada to teach Inuit students in the Far North. Doing a complete u-turn, much of her time since then has been devoted to fostering world peace. She has taught elementary and high school English in Alberta and Iowa. Central to her pedagogical theory is the prevention of boredom. Her interest in meditation led to the study of sections of India's Vedic literature. She currently lives in Calgary, close to family and the Rocky Mountains, where she teaches meditation.

Stag S Leap written by Sharon Olds and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-04 with Poetry categories.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and the T.S. Eliot Poetry Prize Stag's Leap, Sharon Olds' stunningly poignant new sequence of poems, tells the story of a divorce, embracing strands of love, sex, sorrow, memory, and new freedom. In this wise and intimate telling - which carries us through the seasons when her marriage was ending - Sharon Olds opens her heart to the reader, sharing the feeling of invisibility that comes when we are no longer standing in love's sight; the surprising physical passion that still exists between a couple during parting; the loss of everything from her husband's smile to the set of his hip. Olds is naked before us, curious and brave and even generous toward the man who was her mate for thirty years and now loves another woman. As she writes in the remarkable title poem, 'When anyone escapes, my heart / leaps up. Even when it's I who am escaped from, / I am half on the side of the leaver'. Olds' propulsive poetic line and the magic of her imagery are as lively as ever, and there is a new range to the music - sometimes headlong, sometimes contemplative and deep. Her unsparing approach to both pain and love makes this one of the finest, most powerful books of poetry Olds has yet given us.
