Based on over 200 interviews and 13 years of counseling experience, psychologist Sandra Kahn has written the first guide to offer help to women whose unresolved issues keep them emotionally bound to their ex-husbands, even years after a divorce is final. • Does your ex-husband still have the key to your house? • Does your anger about your divorce prevent you from trusting in new relationships? • Do you allow yourself to be seduced by your ex-husband and then hate yourself for letting it happen? If you said yes to any of the above, you may be a victim of the ex-wife syndrome. Psychotherapist Sandra S. Kahn has observed time and again that divorced women often find it difficult to separate from their ex-husbands, even when the marriage is over. Held captrive by strong emotions—fear, anger, shame, even love—they relive the past when they need to make a break and forge a new, self-sufficient life. In Leaving Him Behind, Kahn helps women to recognize how they are still trapped by a marriage gone bad—and what they can do about it. She offers a step-by-step program to regain self-confidence and independence. Praise for Leaving Him Behind “Chock full of advice any divorced woman could use.”—The Toronto Star “Thoughtful . . . Helpful . . . Long-divorced women could benefit from [her] advice.”—The Cincinnati Post “How to transform . . . into a self-sufficient matriarch, capable of assuming full responsibility for oneself and one’s children . . . Useful hard-nose advice.”—Kirkus Reviews

The American newspaper industry is in the middle of the most momentous change in its entire three-hundred-year history. A generation of relentless "corporatization" has resulted in a furious, unprecedented blitz of buying, selling, and consolidation of newspapers, accompanied by dramatic -- and drastic -- change in reporting and coverage of all kinds. Concerned that this phenomenon was going largely unreported, Gene Roberts, legendary reporter and editor, decided to undertake a huge, extended reportorial study of his own industry, what would become the Project on the State of the American Newspaper. Gathering more than two dozen distinguished journalists and writers, Roberts produced a long series of reports in the American Journalism Review, published by the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism, asking the crucial question: Are American communities -- in the very middle of the so-called information explosion -- in danger of becoming less informed than ever?

All his life, Malcolm Tutt wanted to be found. Now on the eve of turning fifty, he realised that sometimes life may never find you and if you wanted it bad enough, sometimes you would have to go and look for it yourself. The only problem was that he would have to die, if he wanted to live. A young woman finds out that her husband is having an affair with her best friend. She decides to confront him, but before she does, she hatches a plan to catch them in the act of betrayal. As she gets closer and closer to discovering the truth about her husband, her anger towards them grows. Like a cheap paperback novel, her life begins to unravel until one night she commits a terrible act, and in the process, finds out what a scorned woman is truly capable of. Leaving Behind is a collection of short stories that explores the lengths that people will go to when they are desperate, each with an unexpected twist.

Have you ever wished that you could be somebody else? Someone completely different? In a brand-new set of more favorable circumstances? Throw off your troubled (or even your nondescript) current life? That's just how Paul Marchildon, in 1963, San Antonio, Texas, felt-when everything was closing in on him. His marriage was quickly unraveling! His modest house was under foreclosure! And his car was about to be repossessed! In addition, he faced an impossible, romantic, situation-vis-a-vis a woman with whom he'd once worked. Paul was sorely tempted to steal $1,000 from his employer! He struggled to resist! Then, when his wife announced that she was taking his four children-and moving in with her parents some 350 miles away-he took the money! And ran! In his flight, Paul was intercepted by an angel-spokesman for a small group of heavenly beings! The angel offered to give him a new body, a new voice, a new name-and to set him up in a beautiful condo, on the beautiful Pacific Ocean beach, in beautiful Oregon. More than a thousand miles from his untenable situation. There was just one highly problematic difficulty: the "celestial deal" consisted of those few angels faking Paul's death! He'd turn up as having died in an automobile crash! Truly, this would be a brand-new beginning! The troubled man accepted! It was only after he had become the younger-and far more handsome- Taylor Young, that he begins worrying about those he'd left behind! His "widow" ran off with some "snake oil" salesman, who won her over with a few lavish gifts. She joined a cult! That left the children-all of whom Paul/Taylor missed terribly-in the hands of their grandparents. Grandma was dangerously harried-and Grandpa hated having the responsibility of having to raise kids that were not his own! Further, there was another woman-one with whom Paul had had a romantic relationship. She was terribly upset by his "running out." She is completely shattered-to learn of his "death." Paul had also been close to her two children. None of this was helping! It was only after he'd assumed his new lifestyle that the now-Taylor slowly learned of the many and varied difficulties confronting all these people from his past. The ones he'd left behind. Obviously, he became more and more concerned about them! So he strived to do something-to do whatever he can-about their troubling circumstances. The effect that his sudden journey back to Texas had on the two women-with whom he'd formed a relationship in Oregon-only added to his rapidly accumulating difficulties. Trust me! A "new beginning" is not always what it would seem to be!
