Doctor David Cooper is studying birds in a Mexican rainforest when he collects a Collared Trogon, a species of bird that is rare in that region. The bird falls between the buttress roots of a large tree. As David reaches down to pick it up, he cuts his hand on a sharp object imbedded in a root. With the help of his camp assistant, he digs the object out and finds that it is a shiny metal cube. Back at camp, he discovers that the weight of the cube is ten times that of an equivalent volume of uranium, the heaviest known stable metal. He calls a professor friend and is directed to a specialist in Fort Collins, Colorado. In Colorado, David comes under the protection of Rocky Mountain Investigations, under an FBI contract. But things go dramatically off course when the specialist is suddenly murdered and the cube stolen. With the help of two of RMI's investigators, David learns the probable location of his cube and pursues it, running afoul of a Mexican crime boss and nearly losing his life in the process. Will David succeed in avoiding danger and turning the tables on the criminals who have stolen the cube? Find out in the compelling conclusion of Legacy of a Trogon.

Winner of the 2021 Haitian Studies Association Book Prize Haiti Fights Back: The Life and Legacy of Charlemagne Péralte is the first US scholarly examination of the politician and caco leader (guerrilla fighter) who fought against the US military occupation of Haiti. The occupation lasted close to two decades, from 1915-1934. Alexis argues for the importance of documenting resistance while exploring the occupation’s mechanics and its imperialism. She takes us to Haiti, exploring the sites of what she labels as resistance zones, including Péralte’s hometown of Hinche and the nation’s large port areas--Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien. Alexis offers a new reading of U.S. military archival sources that record Haitian protests as banditry. Haiti Fights Back illuminates how Péralte launched a political movement, and meticulously captures how Haitian women and men resisted occupation through silence, military battles, and writings. She locates and assembles rare, multilingual primary sources from traditional repositories, living archives (oral stories), and artistic representations in Haiti and the United States. The interdisciplinary work draws on legislation, cacos’ letters, newspapers, and murals, offering a unique examination of Péralte’s life (1885-1919) and the significance of his legacy through the twenty-first century. Haiti Fights Back offers a new approach to the study of the U.S. invasion of the Americas by chronicling how Caribbean people fought back.

It is said that on every world there exists one great story, a legend of such magnitude and consequence that it serves to shape the very existence of that planet. This is such a story. It came to pass upon the world of Brethwyn that the flames of the Uhbliid, the Great Fire, died, leaving behind it a vast, charred wasteland. Few survived. From the ashes of what came before, seven nations emerged to rule. However, obsessed with worldly pursuits, they were oblivious to the ominous threat building upon the face of their closest moon. For, there, beneath that haunted satellite's cold and pitiless surface, an army bent on annihilation was being spawned. Its masters eyed the nearby world menacingly and planned for war; a war fought not for an ideal or revenge, but for a purpose far more sinister. And into the midst of these events stumbles young Aldor es Gilfillan; an escaped slave blessed with the strange gift of warding sight. Seeking only liberty, he finds himself drawn into a quest for hope, carrying an unborne saviour to a mysterious alien nation in a distant country; a journey that, if successful, will see an ancient prophecy fulfilled and Brethwyn saved.

At the turn of the 19th century in India, more than a million wild animals were trounced under the barrel of the gun, bringing them almost to the brink of extinction. There began one of the most inspirational stories of the crusade from Karapore village at the Kabini river of Mysore in South India. An innovative style of protecting nature gives immense importance to the preservation of wilderness, changing the lives of the aborigines through an instrument of eco-tourism. The book charts the key moments in the fight to conserve the natural wealth of India, which has been the centre of admiration for maharajas, the cynosure of the eyes of all royal princes, eminent military officials and those who set on foot to India during the medieval period, embarking on a journey of incredible stories of wildlife sports such as hunting and shooting. The chronicle gives a fascinating picture of the success story of eco-tourism in Karnataka. It offers an atmospheric and entertaining account of the lives of Indian princes, early lifestyles of viceroys, kings, czars and sovereign monarchs with joyful hunting expeditions of emperors, maharajas and enjoyable sports of diplomats and bloodhound hunters, the British civil servants. In a most vivid and gripping style, the saga records the life of men who lived in the wilderness amidst tribes and aborigines and made them friends, which spread the message of the benevolence of human relationships, love and a deep affection for nature and natural resources. It is a captivating book packed with splendid quotes, entertaining anecdotes, chronicles of pre-independent, innovative, triumphant trials of Khedda operations in the princely states of Mysore and Hyderabad, absorbing tales of the wildlife of India and her natural splendours across the cultural diversity of various tribes, ethnicities and their virtues, beliefs and ethos.
