Sie ist neben Maria, der Mutter Jesu eine der bedeutendsten Frauen in der biblischen Geschichte. Allerdings taucht ihr Name nicht nur in der Bibel auf, so schrieb auch Hansel 1935: „Neben Maria, der Mutter Jesu, hat keine zweite Heilige im Leben des gläubigen Volkes, in der Kunst und Dichtung einen derart tiefen Eindruck hinterlassen wie Maria Magdalena.“ Hier wird sie als Heilige deklariert, als Maria Magdalena, aus der der Herr die sieben Teufel ausgetrieben hat, die mit den anderen Frauen unter dem Kreuz von Jesus Christus stand , die Zeugin der Grablegung war , die am Ostermorgen mit diesen anderen Frauen zum Grab ging und dann die Begegnung mit dem Auferstandenen hatte um den Jüngern von seiner Auferstehung zu berichten. Doch in dieser Hinsicht scheiden sich die Geister, denn andere halten sie wiederum für die namenlose Sünderin , die durch ihre Reue die Vergebung der Sünden erhält nachdem sie dem Herrn die Füße wusch, küsste und salbte. Außerdem stellt sich die Frage, ob die biblischen Frauen Maria Magdalena, die namenlose Sünderin und Maria von Bethanien , Schwester des Lazarus und Martha, die den Herrn ebenfalls salbte und der sie vor ihrer Schwester in Schutz nahm , ein und dieselbe Figur darstellen oder drei ganz unterschiedliche Frauen waren?

Es gibt keine Frauengestalt,die eine so schillernde Wirkungsgeschichte, neben der Mutter Jesu,erlebte und zu einer der wichtigsten Figuren der frühchristlichen Erinnerungskultur wurde.Über Maria Magdalena ist jedoch wenig bekannt, es gibt nur spärliche biografische Daten über sie. Bruchstückhafte Notizen und fragmentarische Nachrichten in der urchristlichen Überlieferung trugen dazu bei, dass ihre historische Figur hinter einem Schleier von Legenden nahezu verschwand und sie uns damit bis heute vor große Rätsel stellt.Sie war eine Frau, die im Laufe der Geschichte verschiedene Rollen annahm.Neben der großen Sünderin verkörperte sie auch das Sinnbild der Schönheit, der Büßerin, der Heiligen oder auch der neuen Eva. Auch in der Kunst vermittelt Maria Magdalena einen Eindruck davon, was für eine wichtige Gestalt sie über Jahrhunderte darstellte. In der christlichen Hagiographie und Ikonographie wurde Maria aus Magdala zu einer der bedeutendsten Heiligen. Doch noch populärer wurde sie als Gestalt der Prostituierten, Verführerin und Liebhaberin Jesu Christi. Maria Magdalena wurde damit zu einer Legendengestalt, die in mehreren wissenschaftlichen Abhandlungen Thema war. Autoren wie Claudia Büllesbach, Margareta Arminger oder auch Susanne Ruschmann befassten sich intensiv mit dieser biblischen Frauengestalt und schrieben zahlreiche Bücher über Maria Magdalena. Auch Religionswissenschaftler wie John van Schaik beschäftigten sich mit den Legenden rund um Maria Magdalena, ganz besonders nachdem der Bestseller Roman von Dan Brown veröffentlicht wurde, in dem Maria nicht nur Begleiterin Jesu war, sondern seine Frau.

They were excellent smiths, crafting swords that nothing could dull as well as magical jewelry, and often entered into the service of lords or heroes. They were a part of the everyday life of our ancestors before they were transformed by fairy tales and church texts into the mythical creatures we know today. Lecouteux shows how, in earlier folklore, elves and dwarfs were interchangeable, gradually evolving over time to express very different kinds of beings. “Dwarf,” “giant,” and even “elf” did not necessarily connote size but referred to races with different skills. Elves were more ethereal, offering protection and kindness, while dwarfs reflected a more corporeal form of spirit, often appearing as messengers from the underworld. Yet dwarfs and elves could be bargained with, and our ancestors would leave a broken object outside the door at night with the hope that a dwarf or elf (or other local spirit) would repair it. Revealing the true roots of these helpful and powerful beings, including an in-depth exploration of one of the most famous dwarf/elf/fairy beings of the Middle Ages, Auberon or Oberon, also known as Alberich, Lecouteux shows how the magic of dwarfs and elves can be rekindled if we recognize their signs and invite them back into our world.
