Heute bleibt die Vorstellung von "sozialem Leiden" als Indiz der gesellschaftlich erzwungenen Unfreiheit begrifflich und normativ oft konturlos. Aus diesem Grund analysiert Sembler den Begriff mit Bezug auf die Grundprämissen der Kritischen Theorie. Er entwickelt die These, dass es sich für diese Tradition nicht nur darum handelt, soziale Leidenserfahrungen zu kritisieren, sondern gleichzeitig in der gesellschaftlichen Wirklichkeit selbst auch die potenziell emanzipatorischen, zur Leidensabschaffung beitragenden Kräfte ausfindig zu machen. Er zeigt anhand einer Diskussion materialistischer sowie anerkennungstheoretischer Leidenskritik, dass sich diese These auf die sozialontologische Prämisse Hegels zurückführen lässt, derzufolge die Struktur von sozialen Lebensformen als eine freiheitsermöglichende zweite Natur beschrieben werden kann. Somit lässt sich für heute Debatten die wichtige Schlussfolgerung ziehen, dass in soziale Leidenserfahrungen nicht weniger als die Freiheit von Subjekten auf dem Spiel steht.

There is no generally valid, recognised definition of what landscape actually is. On the basis of its relatedness to the environment, to aesthetics, territory, society, politics, economics, geography, planning, ethnology and philosophy, the concept of landscape is considered to be a "composite" notion shaped by a thousand years of Central European ideas and of literary and art history. In other words, the very term "landscape" is ambiguous and it is used in different ways both in the scholarly world and everyday speech. The aim of this volume is to present various possible approaches to the phenomenon of "landscape". Johann Wolfgang Goethes Briefroman „Die Leiden des jungen Werther“ ist geprägt von Naturbeschreibungen. Diese sind zu Anfang von schwärmerisch-schönem später jedoch mehr und mehr von depressivem Charakter. „Die Leiden des jungen Werther“ entstand zur Zeit des Sturm und Drang. In diesem Zusammenhang änderte sich einhergehend mit der gesamten Weltsicht der jungen Generation auch deren Naturauffassung. Horst Flaschka schreibt in seinem 1987 erschienenem Werk „Werther“: „Unter dem Einfluss Rousseaus verfechten die Stürmer und Dränger in großer Geschlossenheit die Wiederherstellung der durch Zivilisation der Gesellschaft denaturierten Einheit von Mensch und Natur .“ Brigitte Hauger leitet ihre Diskussion zum „Themenkreis Natur“ wie folgt ein: „Die Natur und das Verhältnis des Menschen zur Natur ist ein Zentralthema des „Werther“. Bach's Johannine Theology: The St. John Passion and the Cantatas for Spring 1725 is a fertile examination of this group of fourteen surviving liturgical works. Renowned Bach scholar Eric Chafe begins his investigation into Bach's theology with the composer's St. John Passion, concentrating on its first and last versions. Beyond providing a uniquely detailed assessment of the passion, Bach's Johannine Theology is the first work to take the work beyond the scope of an isolated study, considering its meaning from a variety of musical and historical standpoints. Chafe thereby uncovers a range of theological implications underlying Bach's creative approach itself. Building considerably on his previous work, Chafe here expands his methodological approach to Bach's vocal music by arguing for a multi-layered approach to religion in Bach's compositional process. Chafe bases this approach primarily on two aspects of Bach's theology: first, the specific features of Johannine theology, which contrast with the more narrative approach found in the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke); and second, contemporary homiletic and devotional writings - material that is not otherwise easily accessible, and less so in English translation.
