Seven essays, from a November 1994 conference in Los Angeles, aspire to stamp out once and for all the notion that Kant solved the problem of skepticism. Commemorating C. F. Staudlin, the first historian of skepticism (1794), they document the continuing vitality of a skeptical tradition in Germany, France, and Britain. They consider the role of skepticism in pure philosophy itself, but also in politics; science; and social issues such as smallpox inoculation, suicide, and capital punishment. The Quiche state in Guatemala flourished for several centuries before being destroyed by the conquistadors in 1524. During the early years of the ensuing period, the Quicheans recorded their past history and legends, writing in their own language but using the Latin alphabet. Many of these chronicles have survived, each illuminating various aspects of pre-conquest Quichean culture. Organized in six sections, Quichean Civilization categorizes all the documented sources describing the Quiche Maya. I. Introduction II. Native Documents III. Primary Spanish Documents IV. Secondary Sources V. Modern Anthropological Sources VI. The Cambridge Book Of Magic written by Paul Foreman and has been published by Lulu.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Magic categories.

The Cambridge Book of Magic is an edition of a hitherto unpublished sixteenth-century manuscript of necromancy (ritual magic), now in Cambridge University Library. Written in England between 1532 and 1558, the manuscript consists of 91 'experiments', most of them involving the conjuration of angels and demons, for purposes as diverse as knowing the future, inflicting bodily harm, and recovering stolen property. However, the author's interests went beyond spirit conjuration to include a variety of forms of natural magic. The treatise drew on astrological image magic and magico-medical texts, and the author had a particular fascination with the properties of plants and herbs. The Cambridge Book of Magic gives an insight into the practice and thought of one sixteenth-century magician, who may have been acting on behalf of clients as well as working for his own benefit.
