Niente è più naturale del letargo per alcune specie animali. E per i poeti. Che rinunciano all'io per comprendere la vita. Un uomo dorme fra grattacieli di libri, spostando talvolta qualche piano, consapevole che i crolli cartacei non fanno notizia. Non ricorda il nome della pianta fiorita perché i fiori vivono per una sola giornata. Non tira la coda al pensiero. Lo lascia quieto nella sua tana. Aspetta che gli venga incontro, spontaneamente. Non è «L'uomo che dorme» di George Perec, non si compiace della sonnolenza, dell'amnesia, del letargo come distacco totale dalla realtà. Ghirardi integra la poetica dello sguardo dipanata con rigogliosa intransigenza in «Fiumi di Nuvole» con una poetica della penombra e del dormiveglia, dell'osservatorio sospeso, del limbo pregnante in cui sono possibili tutte le sintesi, in cui la percezione delle essenze, e delle cose in quanto essenze, gode di un riposo che le consente un nuovo contatto fisico, puramente esperienziale con il mondo e con l'io. Cosí realizza una mimesi della natura e del suo magico automatismo, del suo vitalismo senza orgoglio, senza narcisismo, senza doppiezza. Il letargo della scrittura non cade mai nell'aridità. Anzi riconquista vita nello spegnimento e cosí riammette sapori, odori, visioni, osmosi, nel cerchio di una nuova percezione. «Lo scambio di vita tra i fiori è una cerimonia segreta. Le parole colte non sono richieste. Un giorno di vita non ha bisogno di dizionari». Quella di «Letargo» è una continua vibrante rimozione, una dissimulazione consapevole che può ricordare le atmosfere della poesia di Attilio Bertolucci, la metafisica dolce, minimale, asistematica e intensa di Emily Dickinson. L'ibernazione soccorre l'inverno della vita in cui la preghiera non viene esaudita e occorre recitare al silenzio un'atto di contrizione, dove un dittatore senza cognome imprigionò l'ironia, dove la polifonica paura è analfabeta. Ma senza indulgere alla commedia della follia di cui si compiacciono molti poeti, rivelandosi maschere senza carattere. L'indifferenza e il dolore della «Ginestra» di Leopardi trovano una ineffabile, insperata comunione. Perché l'ascesi dello scrittore non è lontananza ma appartenenza essenziale. Ghirardi sa bene che il letargo è una baliverna assediata dal vento. E questo penetra per ogni spiraglio, per ogni metafora per svegliare il pensiero, per umiliarlo, per molestarlo. È uno strumento che regola la velocità a suo piacimento: dalla stasi alla vertigine, dalla calma all'oblio. Renato Minore
