Lettere a Ruggero Jacobbi offers an extensive register of over a thousand pieces of letters sent to the author over a period of forty years (from 1938 to 1981) and of about seventy letters written by him to various correspondents, giving an account of all the epistolary material preserved in the Jacobbi Collection of the "Bonsanti Contemporary Archive" of the Scientific Literary Cabinet G.P. Vieusseux of Florence. From the unpublished documents, carefully filed by Francesca Bartolini, the figure of an intellectual among the most significant of the Italian twentieth century emerges, always present in the cultural debates of the time and passionate and responsive towards the literary and theatrical world. Thanks to the many voices which intertwine different countries and ages, we can reconstruct life starting from the years of Hermeticism, to which he was close in his early youth, find traces of the sixteen years spent in Brazil, retrace the last Italian decades, in which he simultaneously exercised the activities of reviewer, director and theatrical author, essayist, literary critic, historian of literature, university professor, poet and director of the Academy of Dramatic Art "Silvio D'Amico". The names that recur are numerous and authoritative, even of senders of Lusitanian and Hispanic culture, testifying to the authoritative presence of Jacobbi on the European scene. Some of these important names are Murilo Mendes, Jorge Amado, Ricardo Cassiano and, among the Italians, Italo Calvino, Alessandro Parronchi, Vasco Pratolini, Salvatore Quasimodo, Vittorio Sereni and Elio Vittorini. In the appendix that closes the volume, the transcription of some letters dealing with writing, criticism, friendship and commitment is proposed.

The 7th International Conference of the Gruppo di Studi sulla Comunicazione Parlata, dedicated to the memory of Claire Blanche-Benveniste, chose as its main theme Speech and Corpora. Most of the papers collected in this book resulted from presentations and discussions undertaken during the V Lablita Workshop that took place at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, on August 23-25, 2011. The workshop was held in conjunction with the II Brazilian Seminar on Pragmatics and Prosody. The guiding themes for the joint event were illocution, modality, attitude, information patterning and speech annotation. Thus, all papers presented here are concerned with theoretical and methodological issues related to the study of speech. Among the papers in this volume, there are different theoretical orientations, which are mirrored through the methodological designs of studies pursued. However, all papers are based on the analysis of actual speech, be it from corpora or from experimental contexts trying to emulate natural speech. Prosody is the keyword that comes out from all the papers in this publication, which indicates the high standing of this category in relation to studies that are geared towards the understanding of major elements that are constitutive of the structuring of speech.

With the 100th anniversary of Giuseppe Dessí's birth approaching, in 2009, the Committee in charge of the celebrations launched in a widespread dissemination activity of the writer's work in many European countries. And since the translations (the main objective of the project) required a complex knowledge of the author, his style, the dialogue and the difference with the reference culture, it was suggested to study and promote them not only through the reconstruction of the history and typicality of the author's narrative path, but also through the reconstruction of his scarce reception abroad within the framework, in the case of Dessí, of the presence, outside national borders, of Italian literature in the second half of the 20th century. Through the examination of books, editorial catalogues, magazines, anthologies, and thanks to the commitment of scholars and young collaborators of Italian and foreign universities, it is now France, England, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Finland, Sweden and many more at the centre of the attention, with their reading preferences and aversions, together with Italy, and with the themes, stories, characters of the writer to whom this book is dedicated.

It is a Sardinia out of time, on the threshold of history, the one emerging from the pages of Giuseppe Dessí's novels and short stories. But it is also a living Sardinia, full of the contradictions occurring in the landscape and in the vicissitudes of men. The profound relationship which bound Dessí to his land, nourishing his fiction, non-fiction and intellectual works, stands out noticeably in the correspondence collected in this volume. The unpublished letters, found in four different Italian archives, were transcribed and duly annotated by Giulio Vannucci. They tell about the birth and composition of a 1951 special issue of Pietro Calamandrei's «Il Ponte» dedicated to Sardinia, and reconstruct the genesis of the splendid anthology «Scoperta della Sardegna», issued in 1965 by Alberto Vigevani's publisher «Il Polifilo». In those two extraordinary books, the writer left the narrating voice to others for once. Within them, he built a different choral story of the island not only through the words of friends, but also through those of scholars, historians, politicians and many more. In the case of «Il Ponte», Dessí put himself at Calamandrei's service to find suitable collaborators and talk about post World War Two Sardinia, while choosing researchers who could trace a new and original guide for the cultural discovery of the island for «Il Polifilo». The correspondence goes over all of this, but also over culture in the Sixties and the dialogues and intellectual tensions accompanying Dessí in the writing of two works which, thanks to their anthropological and social acuity, still tell the modern reader of a 'vital home' that was his.
