General description of the collection: The Lewis E. Belcher papers include a completed World War II Veterans Survey questionnaire, a program for the 50th reunion of the 10th AD, a photograph of Belcher on a tank, and an original document from Army Service Forces related to his ASTP Training. His schooling in the ASTP was cut short due to manpower needs in Europe. His training was useful and all the clothes and equipment were adequate. The tanks and tank guns were not. He recalls USO shows with Betty Hutton and Celeste Holm. He waded ashore in Normandy from a troop carrier and directly into combat. Replacements were poorly trained. He was wounded when he was the point tank for the battalion after an 88mm Flak gun hit the tank. His unit went on to capture Menningen and Stalag VII.
