The Low Countries are famous for their radically changing landscape over the last 1,000 years. Like the landscape, the linguistic situation has also undergone major changes. In Holland, an early form of Frisian was spoken until, very roughly, 1100, and in parts of North Holland it disappeared even later. The hunt for traces of Frisian or Ingvaeonic in the dialects of the western Low Countries has been going on for around 150 years, but a synthesis of the available evidence has never appeared. The main aim of this book is to fill that gap. It follows the lead of many recent studies on the nature and effects of language contact situations in the past. The topic is approached from two different angles: Dutch dialectology, in all its geographic and diachronic variation, and comparative Germanic linguistics. In the end, the minute details and the bigger picture merge into one possible account of the early and high medieval processes that determined the make-up of western Dutch.

Die Verbände der Versicherungswirtschaft zeichnen sich durch eine besondere Marktnähe aus, indem sie seit jeher auch als Basis unternehmensübergreifenden Kooperationen dienen, die den Betrieb des Versicherungsgeschäfts erst ermöglichen. Vor diesem Hintergrund wurden mit der Gruppenfreistellungsverordnung (GVO) für die Versicherungswirtschaft vier typische Kooperationsformen zwischen 1993 und 2010 vom Kartellverbot freigestellt. Eine neue Gruppenfreistellungsverordnung, die seit dem 1. 4. 2010 in Kraft ist, stellt demgegenüber nur noch zwei Kooperationsformen, namentlich die gemeinsame Statistikarbeit und Versicherungspools, vom Kartellverbot frei. Die Erstellung und Bekanntgabe von Muster-Versicherungsbedingungen und die Kooperation bei Sicherheitsvorkehrungen unterfallen damit nicht mehr der Gruppenfreistellung. Der Autor untersucht, ob die - in der deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft und der Literatur heftig kritisierte - Einschränkung des Anwendungsbereichs der Versicherungs-Gruppenfreistellungsverordnung aus wettbewerbspolitischer Perspektive gerechtfertigt ist. Hierzu werden vermeintliche und tatsächlich bestehende Besonderheiten der Versicherungswirtschaft näher beleuchtet. Daneben stellen sich aber auch grundsätzliche Fragen nach der Bedeutung von Rechtssicherheit und sektorspezifischen Gruppenfreistellungsverordnungen im System der Legalausnahme. This edited collection explores the ways in which our understanding of the past in Dutch history and culture can be rethought to consider not only how it forms part of the present but how it can relate also to the future. "Early European art was a consuming interest of both Robert Lehman and his father, Philip Lehman, an interest reflected in the remarkable number and quality of drawings they owned from the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries.
